About the Opportunity
micro1 is partnering with a leading AI lab to engage PhD-level academic experts across technical and humanities disciplines, including STEM, English, literature, and journalism. In this role, you will apply research-grade expertise to evaluate and improve AI model reasoning, helping establish higher standards for accuracy, depth, and intellectual rigor.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate AI-generated responses within your area of academic expertise for accuracy, depth, and quality of reasoning.
- Develop expert-level prompts designed to test advanced subject-matter understanding.
- Create high-quality reference answers that reflect research-grade academic standards.
- Provide detailed critiques of AI-generated responses and reasoning.
- Identify subtle factual errors, logical gaps, unsupported conclusions, and shallow reasoning.
- Apply established research methodologies and academic standards when assessing model outputs.
- Analyze responses for technical, conceptual, and methodological accuracy.
- Help define expert-level benchmarks and performance standards for AI systems.
- Communicate complex academic concepts and evaluation findings clearly through written feedback.

Required Qualifications
- PhD from a top-ranked university in a relevant technical, STEM, or humanities discipline.
- Strong subject-matter expertise in your academic or research field.
- Demonstrated experience with academic research and research methodology.
- Strong academic writing and technical writing abilities.
- Excellent critical analysis and reasoning skills.
- Experience evaluating, reviewing, or critically assessing academic or research material.
- Ability to identify nuanced errors and weaknesses in complex arguments or explanations.
- Excellent written English with the ability to explain complex ideas clearly.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD-level expertise in a technical field, English, literature, journalism, or another specialized academic discipline.
- Experience with peer review, scholarly publication, or academic evaluation.
- Strong background in data analysis and evidence-based research.
- Experience developing research questions, prompts, or evaluation frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to assess the depth and rigor of complex written responses.
- Experience working on interdisciplinary research or analytical projects.

Eligibility
- PhD from a top-ranked university in a relevant technical or humanities discipline.
- Candidates should be based in an English-speaking country.
- Strong written English and the ability to communicate complex academic concepts clearly are required.
