Chapman Tate Associates are working with an innovative and growing Software House that is looking for a Research Software Engineer to join their team.
The key requirement for this role is strong Python development experience. If you’re a confident Python developer who enjoys working on complex technical challenges, this could be an excellent opportunity to work at the intersection of software engineering and cutting-edge research.
Experience with Linux and High-Performance Computing (HPC) would be highly desirable, but isn't essential.
🔧 What will you be doing?
You'll work closely with researchers, academics, and technical teams, helping them develop, optimise, and support software used across a range of research disciplines.

Your responsibilities will include:
- 🐍 Developing and supporting software primarily using Python
- 💻 Working within Linux-based environments
- ⚡ Supporting and optimising workloads on HPC platforms
- 🔬 Working directly with researchers to understand technical requirements
- 🛠️ Providing coding support, technical guidance, and troubleshooting
- 🎓 Delivering technical training and coaching
- 📚 Creating technical documentation and development best practices
- 🤝 Collaborating with customers and internal technical teams
- 🚀 Keeping up to date with developments across Python, RSE, Linux, and HPC
👨 💻 What are we looking for?
Essential:
- Strong commercial Python development experience
- Good software engineering fundamentals
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills
- A genuine interest in research computing and technical problem solving

Desirable:
- Linux experience
- HPC experience
- Experience with HPC clusters or job schedulers
- C/C++, Fortran, or other research computing languages
- Experience within academic, scientific, or research environments
- Cloud or large-scale computing experience
