The role

Here at Northumbria Police, we think our region is amazing! It takes a great deal of people from different backgrounds, with diverse skills and experience to serve our force area effectively, think you have what it takes to help us make a difference? This could be the perfect time for you to join us as a National Referral Mechanism (NRM) Administrator & Researcher in our Crime Department.

Help protect and support some of the most vulnerable members of our communities. As an NRM Administrator and Researcher, you will manage and quality assure all National Referral Mechanism (NRM) referrals received by Northumbria Police, ensuring information is accurately recorded and progressed in a timely manner to support safeguarding and operational activity.

An NRM referral refers to the process of identifying and referring potential victims of modern slavery or human trafficking to the National Referral Mechanism (NRM). This mechanism is designed to ensure that these victims receive appropriate support and protection.

You will maintain records across force systems, identify trends and vulnerabilities through data analysis, and provide high-quality administrative support. Working with sensitive information, you will play a key role in ensuring accurate record keeping, effective case management and the delivery of organisational responsibilities.

What you’ll do

  • Manage and quality assure all National Referral Mechanism (NRM) referrals received by Northumbria Police, ensuring referrals are accurately recorded, progressed and monitored in line with legislation, policy and national standards.
  • Review referrals to identify crime, safeguarding and investigative opportunities, maintaining accurate records across force systems and ensuring compliance with crime recording and information management requirements.
  • Support the identification and safeguarding of victims of modern slavery, human trafficking and exploitation, ensuring relevant information is shared with internal departments and partner agencies to enable timely intervention and support.
  • Analyse referral data, intelligence and force information to identify trends, vulnerabilities, emerging threats and links between victims, offenders and organised crime groups, producing reports to support operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Act as a key point of contact for NRM-related enquiries, providing advice and guidance to officers, staff and partner agencies, while working collaboratively with national agencies, police forces and external organisations to support investigations and intelligence development.
  • Provide comprehensive administrative support to the Serious and Organised Crime Exploitation Department, including maintaining records, preparing reports, coordinating meetings and training events, and supporting the effective delivery of departmental and partnership activities.

What you’ll bring

Essential:

  • Demonstrable experience of conducting research, analysing information and presenting findings in a clear and accurate manner.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel, with the ability to manage, analyse and maintain data effectively.
  • Demonstrable attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate records and work with sensitive and complex information.
  • Ability to effectively organise, prioritise and manage workloads, meeting deadlines while maintaining a high standard of work.
  • Ability to work independently, using initiative and sound judgement to make informed decisions and resolve problems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive and professional relationships with colleagues, partner agencies and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally to a range of audiences.
  • Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to respond positively to changing priorities and business needs.
  • Demonstrates honesty, integrity and professionalism, with the ability to handle sensitive intelligence and confidential information appropriately.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
