Researcher (Public Participation) - Ada Lovelace Institute

Salary: Starting salary from £43,000 per annum

Contract: Fixed term contract for 2 years

Hours: Full time (35 hours per week)

Location: London based (Farringdon). Option to work part of the week from home.

Closing: 09:30am (BST), Monday 19th October 2026.

The Ada Lovelace Institute is hiring a qualitative Researcher to support our research on the impacts of AI and data on people and society.

Working closely with our Public Participation Research Lead, this researcher will support our work on equity and inclusion in participatory and public attitudes, contributing to a dynamic research programme that is intrinsic to Ada’s mission to make data and AI work for everyone in society.

The Researcher will provide support for a range of multi-methods and mixed methods research projects, in close partnership with Public Participation and Research Practice directorate colleagues, civil society organisations, communities and publics, and collaborating with colleagues from Ada’s other Directorates. This will include stepping into supporting projects already underway, such as the BRAID-partnered recourse and repair or the coalition delivering the Citizens’ Track on AI in relation to the UN Global Dialogue, as well as helping to scope, design and deliver new research that looks deeply at how technologies are affecting people and communities across the UK.

One key area of responsibility will be the coordination of convenings, including the Ada Community Forum, to support field and network building. This role may also contribute to the development of qualitative or participatory research undertaken with colleagues in other Directorates.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About Us:

The Ada Lovelace Institute is an independent research institute funded and incubated by the Nuffield Foundation since 2018. Our mission is to ensure data and artificial intelligence work for people and society. We build evidence and foster rigorous debate on how data and AI affect people and society, aiming to level power asymmetries in ethical and legal debates around data-driven technologies.

Our research takes an interconnected approach to issues such as power, social justice, distributional impact, and climate change. Our team has a wide range of expertise across policy, technology, academia, industry, law, and human rights.

We value diversity in background, skills, perspectives, and life experiences. As part of the Nuffield Foundation, we are a small team with the practical support of an established organisation that cares for its employees.
