Resident Quality Engineer

Job Title: Resident Quality Engineer

Location: Chichester, West Sussex (PO18) Company: auto-scan (Autoscan UK Limited) Duration: 4-Months (Fixed-Term Contract) Pay Rate: £32.00 per hour (Limited Company) + premium rates after 6pm

The Role

We are currently looking to recruit an experienced Resident Quality Engineer for a position based in Chichester:

  • Primary Duty: Offer rapid on-site support when harness-related issues arise in the production area.
  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Attend the point of concern on the production line to diagnose and define problems with production and quality teams.
    • Organise and carry out inspection activities to support root-cause identification.
    • Perform practical rework and repairs to minimise production disruptions, including:
      • Connector replacement
      • Breakout position correction
      • Taping of redundant connectors
      • Harness clip relocation
      • Connector re-pinning
    • Document all actions using standardised reporting processes and ensure clear communication of issues/resolutions with all stakeholders.
    • Manage on-site materials at the customer location, ensuring:
      • Only approved stock is accessible to the production line
      • Effective control of non-conforming materials
    • Proactive improvement: Work on initiative in collaboration with colleagues

Key Requirements

  • Industry Experience: Prior experience in a quality engineer, support technician, or similar role within the automotive sector.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Ability to read wiring diagrams.
    • Proficiency in performing harness and connector rectification processes, such as:
      • Pin-out placements
      • Overlay modifications
      • Connector changes
    • In-depth knowledge of:
      • Automotive OEM & Tier 1 Electrical Distribution Systems (EDS)
      • Electrical schematics, connectors, and diagnostic tools
    • Methodical approach to problem-solving, particularly for electrical issues.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent communication skills (ability to liaise at all levels).
    • Familiarity with 8D methodology (or similar root-cause analysis tools).
  • Organisation:
    • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to high build quality and safety.

Working Details

  • Hours: Monday to Friday (rotational shifts)
    • AM Shifts: 06:00–14:30
    • PM Shifts: 15:20–23:50
  • Requirements:
    • Must possess a valid right to work in the UK without restriction.
    • Must undergo a DBS (criminal record) check.
