Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Residential Childcare Worker role based in Stoke-On-Trent. The role involves providing day-to-day care, guidance, and emotional support to children and young people in a residential setting, ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and positive development.

- Supporting daily routines
- Participating in activities
- Helping with education and life skills
- Maintaining a stable, nurturing environment
- Contributing to care plans
- Recording observations and incidents accurately
- Liaising with colleagues, external professionals, and families where appropriate
- Promoting independence
- Advocating for young people’s rights
- Upholding safeguarding, health and safety, and regulatory standards at all times
The role is typically a 2 days on, 4 days off rota.
Qualifications
- Strong communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills to build trusting relationships with children, young people, and colleagues.
- Skills in de-escalation, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation support to respond effectively to challenging behaviours and complex needs.
- Organisational, record-keeping, and basic IT skills to manage daily routines, documentation, and reporting requirements.
- Teamwork, collaboration, and problem-solving skills to work effectively within a multidisciplinary care environment.
- Empathy, resilience, and a trauma-informed approach to supporting young people who have experienced adversity.
- Relevant experience in residential childcare, social care, or youth work is highly beneficial.
- A recognised qualification in childcare, social care, or a related field (e.g., Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent) is desirable, or willingness to work towards this.
- Knowledge of safeguarding practices, Ofsted standards, and health and safety requirements in children’s services is an advantage.
- The ability to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, as part of a rota is required.
- Eligibility to work in the UK and successful completion of all pre-employment checks, including an enhanced DBS check, are required.
