Role Description

The Residential Childcare Worker role at The Cambian Group is an on-site position based in Cheadle. The role involves providing consistent, nurturing care to children and young people, supporting their daily routines, education, and personal development. Responsibilities include:

The Residential Childcare Worker will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, participate in key worker responsibilities, and support children through challenging behaviors using positive, therapeutic approaches. The role also involves:

  • Engaging children in activities
  • Promoting independence
  • Ensuring their emotional and physical well-being at all times

Qualifications

  • Ability to build trusting, professional relationships with children and young people, demonstrating empathy, patience, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Skills in maintaining clear documentation, following care plans, and communicating effectively with colleagues, external professionals, and families.
  • Capability to manage challenging behavior using de-escalation techniques and therapeutic, child-centered approaches within a residential setting.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to work to procedures, safeguard children, and respond calmly in emergencies.
  • Willingness to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, as required by the residential service.
  • Beneficial qualifications include a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards it) and experience in social care, education, or youth work.
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles, relevant legislation, and best practices in children’s residential care.
  • Right to work in the UK and the ability to obtain enhanced DBS clearance.
