I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Whilst the role is primarily residential conveyancing, there is also scope to broaden your experience and work alongside colleagues on more complex property matters, including rural and agricultural transactions.
This provides an opportunity for the right person to develop their knowledge and experience beyond straightforward residential work, depending on their interests and experience.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Enthusiastic and motivated, with a genuine interest in property work
- Forward-thinking and open to new ideas and ways of working
- A real people person, who enjoys building positive relationships with clients and colleagues
- Conscientious, reliable and takes pride in their work
- Highly organised, with excellent attention to detail
- Able to manage their own workload and meet deadlines
- Confident communicating with clients and other professionals
- A team player who is happy to support colleagues and ask for support when needed
- Keen to learn, develop and take on additional responsibility
For a newly qualified solicitor, this would be an excellent opportunity to build confidence, develop a caseload and gain experience with the support of experienced colleagues.
