Head of Residential Property / Partner | Brighton, Sussex | Remote-First Leadership Role

Here's what makes this different: residential property isn't a side offering here. It's the firm's highest revenue stream, and they know it. Conveyancing is genuinely valued, properly resourced, and treated as the commercial powerhouse it is.

And here's what makes it genuinely rare: you can do this from home. You can live anywhere across Sussex, Hampshire, Kent, Surrey, London, or surrounding areas. You'll visit the Brighton office approximately once or twice per fortnight for strategy, team meetings, and client work. The rest? Remote, flexible, focused on leading and growing the practice.

This isn't a turnaround. The team is flourishing, the client base is loyal, and the firm's reputation in Sussex residential property is undeniable. What they need now is leadership to take it further. From anywhere.

The Opportunity

You'll lead the residential property department with real autonomy, recognition and support:

  • Manage, mentor and develop a strong existing team (mostly remote with structured office time)
  • Handle a small caseload of complex, HNW residential matters (freehold/leasehold sales and purchases, transfers of equity, re-mortgages, lease extensions)
  • Build and deepen client relationships rooted in trust and mutual respect
  • Drive business development and departmental growth as the firm's commercial priority
  • Work from home with flexibility to structure your own time, visiting Brighton office approximately once or twice per fortnight

The firm has excellent community links, a varied client base built over years of first-class service, and consistent work from a loyal, long-standing client base. You'll be backed to grow the firm's biggest earner, not just maintain it. All with genuine flexibility and remote-first working.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The Firm

A Legal 500 practice that combines heritage with a genuinely vibrant culture. Regular social events, family feel, people who actually want to come to work. Not corporate jargon masking a grind.

They understand that leading a team doesn't require you to be in the office every day. Strategic oversight, mentorship, and business development can happen remotely. Office attendance is about collaboration, client meetings, and team connection, not presenteeism.

The Role in Practice

  • Work from home across Sussex, Hampshire, Kent, Surrey, London, or surrounding areas
  • Visit Brighton office approximately once or twice per fortnight for:
    • Team meetings and strategy sessions
    • Client meetings and relationship building
    • Office-based collaboration and mentorship
  • Lead remotely: manage the team, drive strategy, support development
  • Flexible schedule: structure your own time around office attendance and client needs
  • Technology-enabled: proper systems, support, and tools to lead effectively from home

This isn't about being disconnected. It's about working smarter, remote for focus and independent work, office time for connection and collaboration.

About You

  • 8+ PQE as a Residential Property Solicitor with a proven track record in handling complex matters
  • Experience managing a team (Head of Residential Property or Conveyancing Partner level)
  • Dynamic, personable, commercially astute
  • Comfortable developing and managing high-value client relationships
  • Ready to lead the department the firm values most
  • Comfortable leading a team remotely with periodic office attendance
  • Based (or willing to relocate to) within reasonable distance of Brighton for fortnightly visits

Why This Works

This firm has built something genuinely valuable, the biggest revenue driver with a loyal client base and strong reputation. Now they want leadership that can scale it. Remote-first working means you get the lifestyle flexibility without sacrificing the opportunity to lead a thriving practice.

You'll visit the office for what matters: strategy, team development, client relationships. The day-to-day? Remote, focused, and genuinely efficient.

The fact that candidates can live across the South East (Sussex, Hampshire, Kent, Surrey, London, or surrounding areas) reflects that they understand modern working. You're leading a team, not warming an office chair.

If you're ready to lead a residential property practice that's already performing well, genuinely valued, and commercially important, with the flexibility to do it from home, this is genuinely rare.
