Role Description
The Residential Support Worker will provide day-to-day care and support to children and young people living in the home in Wigan. This contract, on-site role involves:
- Building trusting relationships
- Offering emotional support
- Promoting positive routines such as school attendance, hobbies, and healthy lifestyles

Responsibilities include:

- Supporting daily living activities
- Supervising and engaging in play and recreational activities
- Helping young people develop independence and life skills
The role also includes:
- Maintaining accurate records
- Following care plans
- Contributing to reviews
- Adhering to safeguarding and regulatory standards
The Residential Support Worker will collaborate with colleagues and external professionals, participate in team meetings, and follow organizational policies to ensure a safe, consistent, and child-centered environment.
Qualifications
- Experience working with children and young people in residential care, education, social care, or similar support settings.
- Strong communication, active listening, and relationship-building skills to engage and support children and young people effectively.
- Ability to manage challenging behavior calmly, use de-escalation techniques, and maintain professional boundaries.
- Organizational and record-keeping skills, including accurate documentation and adherence to care plans and procedures.
- Commitment to safeguarding, child protection, and promoting the welfare and rights of children and young people.
- Resilience, reliability, and the ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and shifts as required.
- Relevant qualification in health and social care, childcare, or youth work (or willingness to work towards one), and knowledge of regulatory standards.
- Enhanced background check eligibility and authorization to work in the UK; a valid driver’s license is beneficial but not essential.
