At Action for Children, we offer more than just a job. Join us and you’ll be part of a team dedicated to giving children safe and happy childhoods. See how your skills can make a real difference, helping solve the problems children and young people face every day.

About the Service

At McCarthy House, we support children and young people with additional needs, some of whom may have experienced early life trauma. Our aim is to provide a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment where each young person feels valued, respected, and empowered to achieve their full potential. As a Residential Worker, you will play a key role in helping young people develop their independence, build confidence, and gain the skills they need to prepare for adulthood. You will work alongside a dedicated and supportive team committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred care.

Some of the young people we support may experience challenges such as low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and communication difficulties. At times, these challenges may lead to behaviours that require patience, understanding, and a therapeutic approach. Full training and ongoing support will be provided to ensure you have the knowledge and skills needed to meet each young person's individual needs.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
