Residential Surveyor – Birmingham, South Birmingham & Solihull

What if residential surveying didn't have to be a numbers game?

At Richard Russell Surveyors, we've built our business around a fairly simple idea: give good surveyors the time, flexibility and support they need to do good work.

That means quality over quantity. Proper time for inspections. Proper time for reporting and catch-up. A dedicated office team taking care of diaries and day-to-day administration. And genuine flexibility and autonomy in how you work.

We're now looking for an experienced Residential Surveyor to join our team, covering Birmingham, South Birmingham, Solihull and surrounding areas.

A little about us...

Richard Russell Surveyors is an independent residential surveying practice established in Leamington Spa.

Since then, we've grown across the region, with an established presence in Solihull and Rugby, and more recently Cheltenham and the surrounding Cotswolds. We're also preparing to open our new high-street head office in Leamington Spa.

We already have an established presence in Solihull and undertake work across Birmingham and its southern suburbs. Our next step is to strengthen that presence and expand our coverage further across Birmingham, South Birmingham and Solihull – and that's where this role comes in.

You'll be joining an established business and an experienced team, with existing work in the area from day one, while also having the opportunity to help us grow and develop our presence across the wider Birmingham area.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The work...

Our work is predominantly for private residential clients and includes RICS Level 2 and Level 3 Home Surveys, Red Book valuations and other residential valuation work.

We don't believe good residential surveying should be a volume exercise.

We choose quality over quantity and allow proper time for inspections, reporting, client conversations and catch-up. Workloads are structured around the nature and complexity of the jobs you're undertaking, rather than simply trying to fit as many inspections as possible into a diary.

Our surveyors are also supported by a dedicated office team who take care of diary management and day-to-day administration, leaving you to concentrate on surveying and looking after your clients.

You...

Technical ability matters, but so does how you deal with people. Our clients value being able to speak directly to their surveyor and receive clear, thoughtful and practical advice.

You'll ideally:

  • be AssocRICS, MRICS or FRICS and a RICS Registered Valuer
  • have strong experience undertaking RICS Level 2 and Level 3 Home Surveys
  • be confident undertaking residential Red Book valuations
  • have excellent communication and relationship skills
  • take pride in detailed, high-quality work
  • be comfortable embracing technology and new ways of working
  • enjoy contributing ideas and being part of a business that is continually looking to improve

Working at RRS...

We're intentional with work-life balance.

Our surveyors work flexibly from home, with genuine autonomy in how they structure their working day and the support of our office team behind them.

We allow proper time for inspections, reporting and catch-up and recognise that different properties and different instructions require different amounts of time.

We're a close-knit team too. You'll have experienced colleagues around you whenever you want to discuss a property, get a second opinion or simply bounce an idea off somebody.

We also embrace technology and continually look for better ways of working – not to turn surveying into a production line, but to make the job easier and allow our surveyors to spend their time where it matters.

What the role offers...

  • Excellent basic salary plus generous commission on all fees earned (no losing out if you go on holiday!)
  • Flexible, home-based working
  • Company car or car allowance
  • Pension scheme
  • Payment of RICS fees, CPD and ongoing training
  • Dedicated diary and administrative support
  • The opportunity to help develop our presence across Coventry and Rugby
  • A genuine opportunity to contribute ideas and help shape the future of a growing independent practice

So, are we a good fit?

We're proud of the business we're building, but we're equally interested in finding people who want to enjoy the way they work as well as the work itself.

If you're an experienced residential surveyor who's wondered whether there might be a different way of doing things, we'd really like to hear from you.
