The Interstitial Lung Disease Nurse Role

The Interstitial Lung Disease Nurse role is a new and exciting job opportunity for a dedicated and compassionate nurse covering the Torbay and South Devon footprint.

The ILD service is currently undergoing development and expansion and will provide the right candidate with an opportunity to work autonomously and as part of a supportive, dynamic and friendly team.

You will be working closely with the Consultant and Specialist Pharmacist as well as the wider Specialist Respiratory Nursing and medical team. The Torbay ILD service will link closely with the Specialist Centre for ILD providing a broad range of learning and development opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality review of inpatients admitted with ILD ensuring assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised programmes of care in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team
  • Provide nurse led clinics offering highly expert specialist nursing advice and support for patients who have been discharged from hospital with diagnosed ILD or who have been referred from Primary care or by the Consultant
  • Work in collaboration with the Tertiary centre in Exeter including attendance to the ILD MDT
  • Provide nurse led clinics and home visits for ILD patients, providing symptom management
  • Provide support to consultant colleagues in the monitoring of patients with Interstitial Lung Diseases requiring anti-fibrotic treatment
  • Safely prescribe and monitor medicines appropriate to the patient group or work towards a prescribing qualification
  • Safely prescribe and monitor the provision of home oxygen where needed
  • Recognise and support ILD patients entering the palliative phase of their disease and be responsible for appropriate onward referrals to palliative care services
  • Identify need for and conduct ongoing audit of service provision to ensure best evidence based clinical practice and service improvement and to produce clinical guidelines based on this evidence
  • Work with and support other members of the respiratory nursing team providing cross cover services when needed
