Fire and Flood Restoration Technician
National Campaign - current vacancies within our Mansfield branch, London branch, Cotswold branch, Home Counties branch and Scotland West branch.

Disaster Care is a nationwide specialist in disaster recovery and damage restoration. We work with Aviva and their policyholders following fire, flood, escape of water, accidental damage, and the full range of property loss events that disrupt lives and homes.
We are looking for highly competent, experienced individuals to join our technical team whose main priority is to deliver the high service levels we have a reputation for, to the properties and individuals we service.
As a Fire and Water Restoration Technician you will attend properties that have been affected by fire and water damage and be required to provide an assessment of damage and a program of works to put the property back into a condition where another contractor will re-instate.
The role requires technical expertise, strong communication, and empathy for policyholders, ensuring every job is completed to the highest standards and values.
Key Responsibilities
Initial Inspections & Moisture Mapping
- Review job instructions and scope before attendance; confirm ETA with the policyholder.
- Complete on-site risk assessment (RAMS), establish safe working zones, and protect unaffected areas.
- Take accurate air, surface, and core moisture readings; capture clear photographs; produce an initial inspection report with a proposed drying plan.

Restoration Works
- Install, commission, and monitor drying systems (e.g., dehumidifiers, air movers, positive/negative pressure or injection systems, heat mats) with safe cabling and signage.
- Record psychrometric data and equipment performance; adjust the drying plan as conditions change.
- Carry out authorised strip-out of unsalvageable materials safely and in line with the scope of works.
- Deliver authorised fire and smoke restoration works, including soot removal, odour control, and decontamination.
- Safely remove damaged materials in accordance with scope of works and safety protocols.
- Undertake contents restoration where appropriate, including basic PAT testing.
Quality Assurance & Handover
- Verify drying goals against baseline readings; decommission, clean, and remove equipment safely.
- Complete final cleaning and deodorisation to insurer and Disaster Care quality standards.
- Conduct a final walkthrough with the policyholder, address questions, and capture feedback.

Reporting & Compliance
- Upload inspection notes, photographs, moisture readings, and progress logs within 24 hours of each visit to the claims system.
- Maintain strict compliance with GDPR, RAMS, COSHH, PPE, manual handling, and lone-working procedures; report hazards, near-misses, safeguarding concerns, or equipment defects immediately.
Equipment, Vehicles & Sustainability
- Keep vehicles clean, stocked, roadworthy, and compliant; complete daily vehicle and equipment checks and report faults immediately.
- Return all specialist kit to the depot at the end of each shift; support waste segregation and correct recycling/disposal of BER items.
Customer Service & Representation
- Provide clear, empathetic updates; set realistic expectations on drying timelines and outcomes.
- Handle concerns professionally and escalate where appropriate; protect Disaster Care reputation in every interaction.
Operational Flexibility
- Participate in the on-call rota (including weekends) and support surge responses; collaborate with other colleagues as required.
