About FHP

FHP Property Consultants is one of the Midlands’ most respected and active commercial property agencies, with a strong UK presence and a growing national Retail & Leisure platform. Over 35 years, the business has built a reputation as a market leader in commercial property services, known for its personal, no-nonsense and forward-thinking approach.

Its award-winning Retail & Leisure team is one of the leading independent teams in the Midlands. EGi has ranked FHP the most active retail agent in the East Midlands for 15 years, and the 5th most active contributing agent nationally. The team now works across 26 shopping centres and hundreds of retail and leisure properties throughout the Midlands and the North of England.

In 2025 alone, the team completed 324 deals, leased 1.17m sq ft and manages a rent roll of £13m.

Where FHP is Going

FHP’s growth is already well underway. Over the last five years, the Retail & Leisure business has grown significantly, with both turnover and headcount increasing substantially. With work now spanning the Midlands and the North of England, and new instructions continuing to come in, the team needs additional capacity to keep pace.

The Opportunity

FHP is looking for a Retail Agency Surveyor to help drive the next stage of its growth, based in either Nottingham or Birmingham.

This is a role with real ownership from day one. The successful candidate will take on live instructions, with support from experienced members of the team, and work closely with the Head of Retail across high street, shopping centre and roadside retail instructions, as well as property acquisitions.

There is no rigid corporate structure dictating the pace of progression, and there is a clear career path through to Director level for the right person.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

  • Undertake market research, inspections and comparable analysis.
  • Identify prospective occupiers and proactively approach the market.
  • Handle negotiations and progress transactions through to completion.
  • Develop strong client relationships and identify opportunities to win further instructions.
  • Build knowledge and relationships across the Midlands, the wider central belt and the North of England.

The Role

The purpose of this role is to add capacity to a busy, high-performing team, taking ownership of live retail and leisure instructions and helping to drive transactions through to completion.

Alongside transactional work, the role carries a genuine business development element, building client relationships and helping to win new instructions.

Success looks like taking ownership of instructions from day one, playing a real part in winning new business, and building a specialist area of expertise and a strong network across the Midlands.

The Ideal Candidate

FHP is genuinely open-minded about background. What matters most is ambition, a passion for Retail & Leisure, and a proven ability to get deals done.

The preferred candidate will have:

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • The confidence to build relationships with landlords, occupiers and other property professionals
  • A genuine interest in the Midlands property market, ideally with existing local knowledge
  • Retail agency experience, particularly high street and/or shopping centres, would be a strong advantage
