Retail Allocator/Distribution Assistant
We are looking for a Retail Allocator/Distribution Assistant to join our Merchandising team at the Hillier Support Centre. This is a full-time, permanent role supporting the Merchandise Planning Manager and wider commercial teams with the accurate allocation, distribution and administration of stock across our garden centres. The role would suit someone who is highly organised, confident working with data, and enjoys being part of a busy retail environment where accuracy and clear communication are key.
The current salary is £27,000 per annum, rising by £3,000 following completion of key training and achievement of agreed performance objectives.
This is an on-site role, so applicants must be able to commute easily to the Hillier Support Centre in Ampfield, Hampshire, near Romsey.
What you’ll be doing:
- Supporting the allocation and distribution of stock across our garden centres.
- Maintaining accurate product, supplier, pricing and stock information.
- Assisting with product and promotional set-up, including new product launches.
- Helping to monitor stock movements, transfers, markdowns and clearance activity.
- Preparing weekly and monthly reports to support trading and stock decisions.
- Working closely with Buying, Retail Operations, Finance and garden centre teams to resolve stock and product queries.
- Identifying trends, risks and opportunities through accurate data and reporting.

What we’re looking for:
- Strong administrative experience, ideally gained within a retail, commercial, merchandising or stock-focused environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy when working with data.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied workload.
- Confidence using Microsoft Excel or similar data management tools.
- Experience with EPOS or merchandising systems would be helpful, although full training will be provided.
- A methodical, reliable and proactive approach.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work well with different teams across the business.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn and develop within a commercial retail role.
