Company Overview

A leading multi-site consumer business is seeking an experienced Retail & Central Operations Director to lead its central retail strategy and drive commercial and operational performance across a diverse network of locations.

The business is undergoing an exciting period of growth and transformation, with a clear focus on strengthening its retail proposition, improving execution and creating sustainable commercial value.


The Role

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Retail Director will define and lead the retail growth strategy, ensuring that commercial programmes are effectively developed, executed and measured across the business.

This is a highly influential role requiring a combination of strategic thinking, commercial leadership and hands-on delivery.

  • Develop and lead the central retail strategy, translating business objectives into practical commercial programmes.
  • Own and optimise key retail levers including promotional strategy, range frameworks, proposition development and commercial initiatives.
  • Drive measurable improvements in sales, margin, supplier investment and overall retail performance.
  • Lead the development and implementation of retail programmes, ensuring strong execution across a multi-site estate.
  • Drive organisational change, improving retail standards, consistency and alignment across central and operational functions.
  • Work collaboratively across Commercial, Marketing and Operations to ensure retail initiatives are aligned and delivered effectively.
  • Lead, develop and inspire a high-performing team, creating a culture of ownership, accountability and measurable performance.

About You

  • Significant senior-level experience within retail, FMCG or a related multi-site consumer environment.
  • Proven track record of developing and delivering commercial or retail programmes with demonstrable financial results.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, with the ability to understand performance data and translate insight into action.
  • Experience operating within a decentralised or multi-site business model.
  • Strong understanding of retail proposition development, promotional strategy, range and commercial performance.
  • Proven experience leading organisational change and improving operational execution.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the confidence to operate at senior leadership and Board level.
  • Strategic thinker who is equally comfortable getting into the detail and personally driving delivery.
  • Strong project management and analytical capability.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification desirable.
