Retail Customer Assistant at Kingston Hospital

Role Overview: Royal Voluntary Service has an opportunity for a Retail Customer Assistant to join our team at Kingston Hospital, Galsworthy Rd, Kingston KT2 7QB. This is a part-time, fixed-term position until 30/01/2027, with a salary of £12.71 per hour (FTE £23,136 per annum).

About the Role: Royal Voluntary Service hospital cafes, shops, and trolleys are integral to the NHS, offering a range of beverages and healthy food choices. Our customers appreciate that their spending supports volunteer action in hospitals and the community.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing friendly, helpful, and efficient service at all times
  • Welcoming customers, informing them about specials or new products, answering questions, and accepting orders and payments
  • Operating the till and cashing up
  • Maintaining a high level of cleanliness complying with Health and Safety and food hygiene standards
  • Ensuring all stock and displays are replenished regularly and ordering supplies if required

Hours: 21 hours per week across a rota, with shifts predominantly scheduled Monday to Friday, 4 hours a shift, between 06:30–18:30. There may also be opportunities for paid overtime in busy periods or to cover absence.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a retail or café environment would be an advantage, but training will be given
  • A positive attitude and can-do mindset
  • Excellent communication skills
  • High level of organizational skills
  • Familiarity with email and internet
  • A flexible approach towards working hours
  • Ability to enjoy working within a passionate team of employees and volunteers
  • Proficient level of literacy and numeracy
  • Knowledge of EPOS / till systems would be advantageous
  • Knowledge and experience of general administrative processes
  • Willingness to undertake training and continuing professional development
