Job Description

To be responsible to the Head of Retail Catering for the operational management and continual development of the Retail Catering Service across Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. The post holder will lead a portfolio of retail outlets, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality and financially sustainable catering services for staff, patients and visitors.

The post holder will be responsible for driving commercial performance, increasing sales, improving profitability and delivering value for money through effective financial management, workforce planning and service innovation. They will identify and implement cost improvement initiatives, reduce waste, improve stock control and ensure that retail services operate efficiently whilst maintaining excellent customer experience and food safety standards.

The post holder will lead on the development and implementation of EPOS systems, retail technology and digital solutions to improve operational efficiency, strengthen reporting and provide accurate commercial performance data to support decision making.

The Post Holder Will Also Be Responsible For

  • Leading the day-to-day operational management of Retail Catering services across the UHB.
  • Managing delegated budgets, labour costs, stock control and procurement to maximise efficiency and minimise waste.
  • Developing and monitoring retail Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including sales, gross profit, labour productivity, customer satisfaction and wastage.
  • Leading menu development, product innovation and pricing strategies to maximise commercial performance.
  • Ensuring EPOS systems are fully utilised to provide accurate sales reporting, stock management and business intelligence.
  • Ensuring compliance with food safety legislation, Health Board policies, HACCP principles and all statutory requirements.
  • Leading service improvement projects, benchmarking retail performance against NHS and commercial best practice.
  • Managing, developing and motivating retail teams, ensuring high standards of customer service, performance management and staff development.
  • Working collaboratively with procurement and suppliers to improve product range, achieve best value and support sustainable purchasing.
  • Supporting the delivery of the Retail Catering Strategy and wider organisational objectives through innovation, continuous improvement and commercial growth.
