Description
The Underwriting Management team serves as the strategic heartbeat and coordinating engine across our underwriting operations, driving key business priorities, operational consistency, and governance standards.
This role is best understood as a Strategic Assistant. Designed as a high-visibility, cross-functional position, it offers rich variety and exposure across underwriting divisions, executive leadership, and central partner functions (including Operations, Finance, Risk, Human Resources, Data, and Marketing).
As a Strategic Assistant, you will partner closely with leaders across Convex to provide proactive operational coordination, project delivery support, and stakeholder communication. You will act as a key connector across initiatives, helping translate strategic underwriting visions into smooth day-to-day execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Central liaison: act as a reliable point of contact between underwriting management, underwriting teams, and all other functions across Convex to ensure seamless collaboration. Proactively identify bottlenecks and partner with colleagues to devise practical, effective solutions.
- Project & strategic support: contribute to cross-functional change initiatives, strategic projects, and business planning cycles to enhance team efficiency.
- Regulatory compliance & governance: support regulatory reporting requirements and support governance activities to ensure alignment with Group policies.
- Events & communication: help plan internal workshops, team offsites, and stakeholder sessions while promoting transparent team communication.
- Documentation stewardship: maintain and organise vital operational documentation, including underwriting guidelines, risk registers, and business continuity plans.
- Meeting & briefing preparation: coordinate structured briefing materials, presentations, and agenda packs for Executive Committees and Working Groups.
- Distribution strategy support: assist in the operational management of the distribution strategy by supporting the Head of Broker Distribution.
- Budget & financial management: support departmental budget tracking, monitor operational expenses, and forecast resource allocation against financial targets.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
