Returns Investigation & Resolution Technologist
When a product fails, understanding why is critical. As a Returns Investigation & Resolution Technologist, you'll go beyond reviewing data and customer complaints. You'll get hands-on with products, carrying out detailed fault investigations, disassembling items, conducting basic electrical testing and identifying root causes that drive meaningful improvements.
You'll play a key role in improving product quality across a diverse range of electrical and general merchandise products. From investigating serious customer complaints to influencing supplier corrective actions, your work will directly impact the products our customers buy and trust every day.
This is a hands-on technical investigation role. We're particularly interested in candidates who have experience diagnosing faults and analysing electrical or technical consumer products, rather than purely complaints, returns or quality reporting roles.
What You'll Do
- Carry out hands-on product investigations, including disassembly, fault-finding and electrical testing, to determine root causes of failures.
- Analyse returned products and customer complaints, combining technical findings with returns data to identify recurring issues and emerging trends.
- Work closely with Product Technologists and suppliers to implement corrective actions that improve product performance and reduce future returns.
- Produce detailed investigation reports, translating technical findings into clear recommendations for stakeholders.
- Support quality reviews, supplier visits and product assessments, ensuring issues are resolved thoroughly and effectively.
Who You Are
You'll have experience investigating faults in electrical or technical consumer products and be comfortable getting hands-on with products to understand how and why they have failed. This isn't a desk-based quality or complaints role. We're looking for someone who enjoys product analysis, fault diagnosis and root cause investigation.

You may have gained your experience within a retailer, manufacturer, testing environment, supplier or service provider, but you'll be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of electrical or technical products and a track record of resolving product quality issues through practical investigation.
Essential Criteria
- Experience investigating faults in electrical or technical consumer products.
- Hands-on product analysis experience, including disassembly, fault-finding and electrical testing.
- Strong understanding of root cause analysis and product quality investigation.
- Experience producing technical reports and presenting findings to stakeholders.
- Ability to interpret returns, complaints and product performance data to identify trends.
- Confident influencing suppliers and cross-functional teams to drive corrective actions.
- Comfortable managing multiple investigations and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
