Revenue Accountant

Reference: REQ8115

Description: Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week / Permanent

Are you a qualified accountant with substantial experience in revenue accounting and financial management? Do you enjoy working with complex financial information and providing strategic financial advice that supports effective decision-making across a large organisation?

As a Revenue Accountant, you will play a key role in delivering the Council's corporate accountancy function. You will provide specialist financial advice and support to senior managers and stakeholders, coordinate and monitor revenue budget processes, and help ensure the Council meets its statutory financial responsibilities. The role also includes responsibility for supporting and developing staff, improving financial systems and processes, and contributing to the organisation's strategic planning and financial management framework.

This is a full-time post working 37 hours per week from Monday to Friday. Based at City Hall, the team currently works in a hybrid arrangement, combining home and office working depending on business needs. We offer flexible and agile working to support a healthy work-life balance.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
