RF Engineering Technician

Filtronic is an award-winning technology company designing and manufacturing advanced RF, microwave, and mmWave solutions for the Space, Aerospace, Defence, and Telecommunications markets. We are looking for a practical and technically minded RF Engineering Technician to join our engineering team based at the Cambridge Science Park in the beautiful city of Cambridge.

This is a varied, hands-on role supporting RF, electronics, and mechanical development, with the opportunity to develop a broad range of technical skills. Working alongside RF, electronics, software, and mechanical engineers, you will help turn designs into working prototypes and reliable test setups for telecommunications, space, and defence applications.

The role is predominantly laboratory and workshop-based and will provide practical engineering support across the development, assembly, and testing of high-performance products.

You will support a range of engineering activities, including:

  • Setting up and carrying out RF and electronic measurements.
  • Operating test and measurement equipment including network analysers, signal generators, power meters, and oscilloscopes.
  • Connecting laboratory instruments to PCs using Ethernet, USB, GPIB, and serial interfaces.
  • Running and making simple changes to Python scripts used for automated testing and data collection.
  • Supporting soldering, PCB rework, prototype fault-finding, and component replacement.
  • Manufacturing cables, RF cable assemblies, and electrical wiring harnesses.
  • Assembling mechanical parts, enclosures, and complete prototype units.
  • Producing simple components, fixtures, and test jigs using 3D printing and CNC equipment.
  • Maintaining laboratory tools, equipment, and components.
  • Recording test results accurately and maintaining appropriate engineering records.
  • Working with engineers to resolve practical engineering problems and support the progression of designs from prototype through to production.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
