🔬 RF Lab Test Technician | Outside IR35 | Surrey
I’m currently recruiting for an experienced RF Lab Test Technician for an Outside IR35 contract with a specialist UK RF engineering consultancy.
This is a hands-on contract opportunity for an RF test professional who enjoys working at the bench, setting up accurate measurements and supporting complex engineering projects.
The role
You’ll support a range of RF, EMC and compliance test activities, including:
- Setting up and running conducted and radiated RF measurements
- Operating spectrum analysers, VNAs, signal generators, power meters and oscilloscopes
- RF characterisation including S-parameters, VSWR, return loss, insertion loss, gain, noise figure and P1dB
- VNA and RF test setup calibration and verification
- RF and EMC compliance testing
- Prototype PCB soldering, rework and modification
- Building test fixtures, RF cable assemblies and adaptors
- Capturing and processing RF/IQ and spectrum data
- Supporting test automation using Python/SCPI
- Producing accurate test records, plots and technical reports
- Supporting the day-to-day operation of the RF laboratory

Experience required
We’re looking for someone with:
- 2+ years' hands-on experience in an RF, microwave or EMC test environment
- Strong practical knowledge of RF measurement techniques
- Experience using VNAs, spectrum analysers, signal generators and power meters
- Experience with RF test setup calibration and verification
- Good soldering and PCB rework skills, including fine-pitch SMD
- Ability to read schematics, test specifications and block diagrams
- Strong attention to detail and accurate technical documentation
- UK right to work
Experience with 5G NR, Wi-Fi, radar, EMC testing, anechoic chambers, Python/SCPI, MIL-STD-461G or ISO/IEC 17025 would be advantageous.

Contract details
📍 Location: Surrey, UK
📄 Contract: Outside IR35
⏱️ Engagement: Contract
💰 Rate: Competitive, dependent on experience
✈️ Travel: Some travel to client and test-house sites may be required
The projects cover a variety of sectors including telecommunications, defence, automotive, consumer electronics and research, offering exposure to a broad range of RF technologies and test environments.
