Job Role
To provide specialist rheumatology nursing care for patients with inflammatory and autoimmune musculoskeletal conditions, ensuring safe, effective, and patient-centred management through clinical assessment, treatment monitoring, education, support, and multidisciplinary coordination.
Responsibilities
- Specialist assessment review: Monitor patients with rheumatological conditions
- Nurse-led clinics: Provide telephone advice and patient follow-up
- Treatment monitoring: Monitor patients receiving DMARDs, biologic, and other specialist treatments
- Complication identification: Identify and escalate deterioration, infection, adverse effects, and treatment complications
- Education and support: Provide medication education, treatment advice, and self-management support
- Care coordination: Coordinate care with consultants and wider MDT
- Treatment initiation and monitoring: Support safe and timely initiation and monitoring of treatments
- Advice during disease flare: Provide advice and support during disease flare and any changes in condition
- Documentation: Maintain accurate clinical documentation
- Audit and service development: Contribute to audit, QI, and service development
- Team support: Support and develop the wider nursing team
- Patient-centred care: Promote patient-centred care and improved outcomes across the rheumatology pathway
