This is the job
As a Risk & Compliance Specialist, you’ll play a key role in strengthening the risk and control framework for AAUICL, the AA’s in-house insurance company. Reporting to the Head of Risk, Compliance and Operations, you’ll help the business achieve its strategic objectives while keeping good customer outcomes at the heart of what we do.
You’ll work closely with stakeholders across the business, providing practical risk and compliance advice and guidance. You’ll help identify, assess and manage risks, ensuring they’re clearly understood, effectively controlled and accurately reported.
You’ll also take ownership of tracking compliance and audit actions through to completion, keeping things moving and making sure agreed targets and deadlines are met.
What will I be doing?
- Developing and embedding AAUICL’s Risk Management Framework, ensuring alignment with Group Risk & Compliance and business needs.
- Identifying and assessing potential risks, advising on practical controls and improvements to prevent or mitigate issues.
- Supporting Risk Owners through risk assessments, workshops and ongoing management of risks, issues and incidents.
- Ensuring AAUICL meets relevant regulatory and legislative requirements, including GFSC, FCA and Solvency II requirements.
- Guiding colleagues and outsourced service providers to understand their regulatory responsibilities and make informed risk and compliance decisions.
- Maintaining effective Conduct and Customer Outcomes frameworks, helping to identify and mitigate the risk of poor customer outcomes.
- Overseeing key third-party and outsourcing arrangements, alongside compliance risks, controls and regulatory obligations.
- Producing clear and insightful risk and compliance reporting for governance committees and forums, including maintaining relevant risk dashboards and registers.
- Monitoring compliance and audit actions, working collaboratively with the business to resolve issues and ensure actions are completed on time.
- Coordinating regulatory reporting, submissions and interactions with the GFSC and FCA, while representing Risk & Compliance at relevant internal and external meetings.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
