The overall mission of the Risk & Compliance department is to nurture a mature risk and compliance environment which enables good outcomes, responsible risk taking and informed decision making, as well as providing assurance to our colleagues, customers and stakeholders.
The First Line of Defence Non-Financial Risk (1LOD NFR) Team
The 1LOD NFR team sits within the Risk and Compliance Department. It is responsible for advising, supporting and enabling LOD1 to adequately identify, mitigate and monitor their non-financial risks on a day to-day basis. Its aim is to ensure that risks are managed proactively and effectively by 1LOD, who are ultimately accountable for the proper monitoring and mitigation of the operational risks within their activities.
All members of the 1LOD NFR team play a pivotal role in developing a positive risk culture & conduct within Ayvens UK and in developing our collective risk management capability.
Role Responsibilities:
- Operate as a member of the management team within assigned business partnering divisions and deliver integrated, comprehensive and commercially focused risk management support.
- Influence and mature the risk management strategy, culture and capability within each division so that risks, incidents and controls are managed proactively and protect the organisations value.
- Be an expert on and embed all elements of the non-financial risk framework, with individual responsibility for one or more specific risk management topics. This role is specifically responsible for leading & delivering the Consumer Duty Outcome Testing framework.
- Lead and deliver the Consumer Duty Outcome Testing Framework. This includes Consumer Duty KPI definition and monitoring, outcome testing (policy, framework and testing), and collaboration with the Consumer Duty Forum.
- Act as a risk business partner for 1LOD divisions. Develop strong, meaningful relationships at a senior level, challenge and influence the management team to ensure that risks, incidents and controls are managed effectively. Work in partnership with business leaders to identify and assess operational risks and create robust risk mitigation plans in line with organisational risk appetite. Participate in the review, development and implementation of risk registers, policies, procedures and controls.
- Engage and motivate the 1LOD community in understanding the importance of risk management to improve organisational performance. Work collaboratively with the 1LOD community to develop capability. Escalate any instances non-compliance with policies, process and regulations appropriately. Build and sustain a positive risk culture and risk management capabilities across 1LOD. Deliver corporate induction, workshops and other risk management presentations as required.
- Spearhead and direct incident management working groups to mitigate the impacts arising from material operational risk and compliance incidents. Manage the end-to-end incident life cycle, including incident escalation, root cause analysis, corrective actions, preventative actions, monitoring action plans and lessons learnt exercises for material incidents. Analyse and gather insight from incident trends to form proactive interventions.
- Be an expert in all non-financial risk frameworks and provide accurate, timely and reliable advice. Successfully implement and maintain assigned risk management frameworks (e.g. internal control, business continuity, data protection, RCSA etc) and the associated policies, processes, governance forums and controls. Maintain full and ongoing awareness of group and regulatory requirements in relation to assigned frameworks. Translate group policies, regulatory requirements and industry best practice into proportionate, engaging and practical guidance for local teams.
- Spearhead and deliver initiatives to implement all non-financial risk management frameworks, such as Risk Acceptance, Risk & Control Self Assessments (RCSA) and risk registers. Maintain industry knowledge of all non-financial risk frameworks.
- Build excellent working relationship with central teams, influences central decision making to improve outcomes and challenges group requirements as appropriate.

Skills and Experience:
- Consumer Duty knowledge: Strong knowledge of Consumer Duty and Outcome Testing requirements.
- Risk Management knowledge: Strong technical risk and control knowledge. Excellent knowledge of risk frameworks, concepts and practical application. Holds relevant risk management qualification. In depth knowledge of industry best practice, policies and processes. Able to apply risk management theory/principles to solve new/emerging business problems as they arise.
- Communication: First class interpersonal skills. Able to build and maintain relationships with the extended management team which enable 1LOD to raise new risks and issues without barriers. Excellent communicator, relationship builder and influencer. Adapts communication style for target audience. Able to produce high quality, accurate, and insightful presentations; reporting for senior management and risk committees. Uses a variety of training styles and techniques to improve training outcomes. Able to simplify complex concepts into engaging content. Communicates the “why” to obtain stakeholder buy in.
- Persuading and influencing: Able to examine and shape the beliefs and behaviours of colleagues with the aim of building our target risk culture and to ensure colleagues operate within risk appetite, policy and procedure. Able to question senior management and influence judgements to ensure risk mitigation plans align to risk appetite and strategy.
- Collaboration: Focuses energy and talent on collective success. Able to work alone and as part of a team and contribute to broader team objectives. Recognises and celebrates 1LOD best practice. Able to work with a matrix management style across the 1LOD NFR team, collaborating with different framework owners and divisional teams. Collaborates with broad range of stakeholders to deliver project/frameworks effectively.
- Report writing: Provides high quality reports for management, including board level papers and presentations. Able to outline clear, concise arguments and evaluate options based on strategic priorities. Produce and review risk committee packs articulating risk profile, control gaps and using the operational risk framework and material risk measures.

Desired:
- Previous experience in operational risk, outcome testing, quality assurance, audit, internal control management or related discipline
- Previous experience of working with customer service teams and customer journey mapping
- Degree level education (or holds equivalent qualifications or experience) -advantageous
- Holds relevant risk management qualification – advantageous
- Good knowledge of the FCA and Consumer Duty requirements - advantageous
IT Applications:
- Experience using risk systems e.g. Symbiant, Risk Wizard, ARIS
- Excellent IT literacy for all MS office products, specifically Powerpoint & Excel
