About the role

Lycetts Insurance Brokers, who are proudly part of Benefact Group, are looking for a Risk & Compliance Trainee to join our Newcastle office.

This is an excellent opportunity to build a career in risk and compliance, developing your knowledge of regulatory requirements, operational risk management, and governance within a leading financial services business. Working closely with the Compliance Director and wider Risk & Compliance team, you'll support the implementation of systems and controls that promote good client outcomes, while helping to ensure compliance with FCA, financial crime and data protection requirements. You'll also gain valuable experience by collaborating with colleagues across the business, analysing information, maintaining accurate records and contributing to a strong culture of compliance and risk awareness.

What you'll be doing

  • Support the Compliance Director, Risk & Compliance Team Leader and Compliance Officers, to help ensure systems and controls are in place to support good client outcomes.
  • Assist with the key activities required under ICOBS/COBS, DISP, PROD, T&C, CASS5, CONC, SYSC and other sections of the FCA handbook, as well as Financial Crime and Data Protection requirements.
  • Provide day-to-day support across the function, including administration, record keeping and follow-up activities.
  • Work with teams across the business to promote a culture of compliance and risk awareness.
  • Review and analyse information carefully, maintaining accurate records, supporting accurate reporting, and compliance documentation.
  • Build knowledge of regulations, internal policies and operations by asking questions, seeking feedback and applying learning.
  • Manage tasks effectively, works to agreed deadlines, and balances competing priorities while maintaining quality and accuracy.

What you'll need to have

  • A genuine interest in governance, compliance, and risk management. With a commitment to supporting good client outcomes.
  • A willingness to learn, ask appropriate questions, take initiative and apply new information.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to analyse information critically
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to engage professionally with colleagues at all levels
  • Competent IT skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office applications and learn relevant business systems.
