About the Role
Partner with stakeholders to perform operational risk oversight across the business, strengthen decision-making, resilience and business performance.

Hybrid 80% homeworking and 20% from Stratford Upon Avon
As a Risk Consultant, you'll work with teams across NFU Mutual to help them identify, assess and manage operational risks. As part of the Operational Risk Management team, you'll support colleagues in using our Risk Management Framework in their day-to-day work, including recording risks, assessing their impact, agreeing actions and monitoring progress.
You'll review risk and control information, ask constructive questions and give practical advice to help teams make informed decisions within risk appetite. You'll analyse risk data and incidents, identify trends and emerging issues, and help prepare clear reports and updates for management and governance meetings.
You'll also support major projects and business change by helping teams consider new or changing risks, assess whether proposed controls are suitable and track agreed actions. In addition, you'll contribute to focused risk reviews, improve risk processes and guidance, and help create and deliver communications and training that make operational risk easier for colleagues to understand and apply.
This is an opportunity to build on your existing risk experience, gain exposure to different parts of NFU Mutual and see how operational risk supports business performance and resilience. You'll work with experienced colleagues, take ownership of defined pieces of work and develop your ability to influence risk management across the Group.
The role is based at our Tiddington Head Office, just outside Stratford-upon-Avon. We offer a hybrid working arrangement, with the option to work up to 80% of your hours from home and access to our office facilities when working on site. Given the collaborative nature of the role and the importance of building strong relationships, you may choose to spend additional time in the office. We fully support this and provide modern facilities to help you work in the way that suits you best.
About You
You're a collaborative and credible professional who builds strong relationships across a wide range of stakeholders and is confident providing advice, challenge and influence at all levels. With strong analytical and critical thinking skills, you're able to interpret complex information, identify key risk exposures and support effective decision-making. You communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, take a proactive approach to your work and maintain a high level of attention to detail. You'll also enjoy working as part of a team, sharing knowledge and driving continuous improvement.

To join NFU Mutual, you'll also bring:
- Essential: Practical experience applying an operational risk management framework—for example, identifying and assessing risks, evaluating controls, recording actions and monitoring progress.
- Essential: Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret risk data, identify trends and exceptions, and explain their business impact clearly.
- Essential: Experience producing accurate risk reports or management information and presenting the key messages, decisions and actions to managers or governance forums.
- Essential: Experience working directly with stakeholders to understand risk and control issues, provide practical advice and offer constructive challenge where responsibilities, evidence or actions are unclear.
- Essential: A Have a good understanding of how information or transactions flow through an organisation or process, with the ability and be able to identify where failures could occur risks inherent in the process. Be able to identify and recommend proportionate, practical pragmatic controls. to mitigate the risks
- Desirable / can be developed: Experience using risk management systems, supporting thematic reviews or identifying process improvements, together with working knowledge. Have strong risk analysis and data interpretation capability, including good grasp of Microsoft Excel or similar analytical tools.
Experience in insurance or financial services would be advantageous. A recognised risk qualification would also be beneficial, although it is not a prerequisite and we welcome applications from candidates looking to further develop their risk expertise in role.
