Right across infrastructure, there’s a requirement to not only maintain, but also renew and reimagine. Whatever stage you’re at in your career, with us you’ll have an opportunity to grow and develop. Delivering essential infrastructure services for life, while being safety first, and client and customer centric in a friendly, fun and respectful environment where you are encouraged to thrive.

Where will you be working?

At M Group Energy, we’re enabling the energy essential to support our lives.

We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation.

This role will be within our Substation & Renewable Connections team. We design, build and commission substations at voltages up to and including 400kV. Our teams construct and maintain transmission lines and substations, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity.

What will you be doing?

As a Risk Engineer you’ll support our major M&E projects by working across contracts with our key clients in the transmission sector. Reporting directly to the Risk Manager and alongside our project teams, you will contribute to a culture of proactive risk management that safeguards our people, protects programme performance and supports our reputation for delivering complex infrastructure on time and within budget. You’ll be instrumental in identifying, quantifying, and mitigating threats and supporting opportunities to improve project performance across our portfolio of substations.

We're looking for someone based in the South West or South Wales due to our projects being in these locations with our main office being in Newport. This is a Hybrid position.

  • Maintain package risk registers through risk reviews, risk workshops and health checking, working collaboratively with the project teams
  • Facilitate structured risk workshops with project teams, supply chain partners, and client representatives using recognised methodologies
  • Ensure mitigations are SMART and are kept under review as to their effective and efficient performance to manage risk to required levels
  • Prepare Quantified Risk Analysis (QRAs) throughout the project lifecycle and in readiness for stage-gate reviews, embedding techniques and tools on all projects alongside the project teams.
  • Model interdependencies between programme elements and advise on optimal contingency allocations
  • Support the Early Warning Register (EWR) process, ensuring timely identification and communication of compensation events and project risks
  • Contribute to Risk Reduction Meetings and Programme Risk Reviews
  • Provide support to the Risk Manager, Project Managers, and Project teams
  • Utilise and champion digital risk tools and support the adoption of data-driven risk analytics and predictive modelling techniques

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
