The Department

The Risk and Compliance team work in collaboration with the business to ensure best practice across the Firm, effectively managing all aspects of the regulation surrounding the efficient running of our Firm.

The Team

This role sits within the General Counsel team and plays a critical role in providing legal advice and guidance both within the department and more broadly across the MDR Group.

This role will play a part in continuing to build the one-team ethos that values teamwork, continuous development, and providing the highest legal rigour and advice to the business. This role will have the opportunity to work closely with the General Counsel, with a clear opportunity for ongoing development and a clear career path for the right candidate that will see this role continue to grow over time.

The Role

As an experienced member of the team, this role will regularly interface with key stakeholders across the business, including Partners, Lawyers, and leaders of our operational and consultancy businesses. This will be a highly visible role, therefore the ability to build effective working relationships and become a trusted advisor to the range of stakeholders will be key to its success.

As the Firm continues to grow and expand the Mishcon Group both here and abroad, the challenges facing the team are also increasing. As the Firm attracts new talent it also generates an increasing number of strategic initiatives which often involves the GC Team. We are therefore embedded into the senior management of the Firm, working closely with a range of stakeholders who seek our counsel and input into projects and initiatives. This role is therefore a tremendous opportunity to tackle diverse issues across a broad spectrum, both inside the Firm and for its emerging businesses. It will suit individuals who have a commercial mind, excellent common sense and drafting skills. The ability to demonstrate agility will be critical.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • To work with the GC/COLP on non-contentious general legal risk related issues, with the opportunity to lead on matters where appropriate. This includes general queries, legal advice, updating policies, procedures and collaborating on firm-wide projects across broad commercial and regulatory issues and compliance.
  • Leading the management and review of General Counsel aspects of commercial and client related contracts and terms of business, alongside stakeholders in the firm.
  • To act as a trusted legal advisor on data protection and technology risk issues and projects, working closely with the R&C and data protection teams as appropriate.
  • To take a proactive mindset towards the ever-changing regulatory landscape, assessing the impact of changes against existing Firm's processes and enacting amendments/changes as and when required.
  • Preparing and delivering regulatory training within the Department and where applicable across the Firm, to promote the compliance with our risk management ethos.
  • To support the other team members with their ongoing learning and professional development, including where appropriate taking line management responsibilities.
  • To act as a role model for more junior team members across the wider R&C team - to be able to act as a mentor, deliver training and provide additional support on ad-hoc projects as and when needed.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
