Risk Manager

UK | Hybrid | Permanent

Major Projects | Nuclear | Defence | Infrastructure

Risk should change the decision.

Too often, risk management becomes a process around the project rather than something that genuinely influences it.

Registers are maintained. Workshops are held. QRAs are run. Reports are produced.

But the more important question is: did any of it change what the project decided to do?

At Kaleido, that's where we're interested.

We're looking for a Risk Manager who can combine strong risk management fundamentals with curiosity, judgement and analytical thinking — someone who wants to understand the project behind the risk register and turn uncertainty into useful decision insight.

What you'll do

You'll join a growing consultancy working across some of the UK's most complex capital programmes, particularly in nuclear, defence and major infrastructure.

This isn't simply a role administering somebody else's risk process.

It's an opportunity to help us develop what better risk management looks like.

You'll work directly with clients, project teams and senior decision-makers to understand uncertainty and what it means for delivery. That will include:

  • Leading meaningful risk and opportunity conversations — getting beyond generic risk statements to the assumptions, dependencies and conditions that really matter.
  • Facilitating workshops that challenge thinking rather than simply populate a register.
  • Undertaking and assuring quantitative cost and schedule risk analysis, including QCRA and QSRA.
  • Interrogating model assumptions, inputs and outputs rather than treating the Monte Carlo result as the answer.
  • Connecting risk with cost, schedule, change, estimating, readiness and wider project-controls information to build a more complete view of exposure.
  • Identifying systemic risks, interfaces, dependencies and emerging issues that may not sit neatly within an individual project's risk register.
  • Testing scenarios, mitigations and alternative courses of action to understand what could materially change an outcome.
  • Turning analysis into concise, credible insight for Project Directors, Programme Directors and senior stakeholders.
  • Providing constructive challenge and independent assurance where the evidence doesn't support the prevailing view.
  • Helping clients improve their risk capability, governance, processes and analytical approaches.
  • Exploring how better data, integrated modelling, automation and emerging technologies can improve the quality and speed of risk-based decisions.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You'll still work with risk registers, governance and reporting. They matter.

We just don't think they're the end product.

What we're looking for

You may already be a Risk Manager, Project Risk Manager or Senior Risk Consultant.

Or you may have developed your risk expertise through planning, project controls, cost, engineering, analysis or another major-project discipline.

We're more interested in the quality of your thinking than whether your CV follows a particular career template.

You'll probably be a good fit if you:

  • Have experience applying risk management on complex projects or programmes.
  • Understand qualitative and quantitative risk management and can independently undertake or lead QRA.
  • Understand enough about cost and schedule to challenge the information going into a risk model.
  • Can distinguish between a technically sophisticated analysis and one that is actually useful.
  • Are comfortable facilitating discussions with multidisciplinary teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Ask good questions and are willing to challenge assumptions respectfully.
  • Can take complicated information and communicate what matters clearly.
  • Think beyond individual risks and look for connections, interfaces and second-order effects.
  • Are comfortable working with uncertainty rather than creating false precision.
  • Want to improve methods rather than simply inherit them.
  • Enjoy working in a small consultancy where you'll have visibility, responsibility and room to shape what comes next.

Experience with tools such as Safran Risk, Primavera Risk Analysis, @RISK, ARM or equivalent would be useful, but we're deliberately not recruiting against a software checklist.

Likewise, qualifications from APM, IRM, PMI or similar are welcome, but practical capability, judgement and intellectual curiosity matter more to us than post-nominals.

Because some of our work supports nuclear and defence programmes, you'll need to be eligible for appropriate UK security clearance.

Why Kaleido?

Kaleido is a specialist consultancy built around a simple idea:

better project outcomes start with better decisions.

Our work brings together Strategic Advisory, Integrated Modelling and Digital PMO, underpinned by our approach to Decision Intelligence.

That means we don't see risk as an isolated discipline.

We see it as one part of a connected decision environment involving strategy, assumptions, cost, schedule, readiness, data, governance and human judgement.

For someone joining our risk capability, that creates a much broader canvas than a conventional risk-management role.

You'll work closely with experienced consultants, have direct access to clients and senior stakeholders, and contribute to the development of our methods, services and intellectual property.

We're deliberately small.

You won't disappear into a hierarchy or spend years waiting for exposure. If you've got a good idea, we'll want to hear it. If you can take on more responsibility, you'll get it.

We're also actively interested in where the profession goes next — integrated modelling, systems thinking, advanced analytics, AI and new ways of understanding uncertainty.

You won't be expected to know all of that when you arrive.

You should want to explore it.

What we offer

  • Permanent UK role
  • Hybrid and flexible-first working
  • Salary: £50,000 to 60,000 depending on experience
  • 28 days annual leave plus public holidays
  • Private medical cover
  • Employer-matched pension contributions
  • Investment in professional development, qualifications and learning
  • Exposure to complex, nationally significant programmes
  • Direct access to experienced practitioners and senior clients
  • The opportunity to influence the growth of Kaleido's risk and Decision Intelligence capability

Interested?

We're not looking for somebody who perfectly matches a 20-point competency checklist.

We're looking for someone who understands risk, understands projects, and thinks there must be a better way of connecting the two.

If you've read this and thought:

“That's the kind of Risk Manager I want to be.”

We should probably talk.

Apply via LinkedIn or contact Kaleido Projects directly.
