Risk Management Consultant Mott MacDonald – Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD) Unit Locations: Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Warrington, Derby, London, Glasgow, Edinburgh

About the Role
Join Mott MacDonald’s Award-Winning Risk Team as we enter an exciting phase of growth. We are seeking talented risk management professionals to help shape and safeguard complex construction and infrastructure projects across dynamic sectors including:
- Transport
- Defence
- Water
- Buildings
- Energy
Primary goal? To implement and embed risk management methodologies that enhance project outcomes, reduce uncertainties, and drive value for our clients.
Key Responsibilities
As a Risk Management Consultant (Risk Manager), your key contributions will include:
- Undertake assurance reviews of risk deliverables and methodologies, ensuring they comply with best practice (ISO 31000, IRM, or APM frameworks).
- Support strategic decision-making by profiling business cases, investment decisions, and appraisals—assessing the quality, robustness, and transferability of risk evidence.
- Embed risk expertise within client environments, advising and integrating techniques in programme and project teams.
- Coach and develop project teams, sharing knowledge and fostering risk management excellence.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, colleagues, supply chain partners, and stakeholders to facilitate collaboration and trust.
- Facilitate risk workshops and ensure risk information is delivered to project stakeholders efficiently.
- Conduct cost and schedule risk analyses, ensuring rigorous evaluation of commercial and technical risks tied to project delivery.

Requirements & Skills
Essential Criteria
Your expertise and experience must demonstrate mastery of:
- Risk process alignment: Ability to review and assure risk methodologies against industry standards (ISO 31000/ IRM/ APM).
- Risk management competence: Experience in initiating, developing, and implementing risk management processes for complex Construction & Infrastructure projects.
- Workshop facilitation: Conduct and manage risk workshops, ensuring strong input from project teams.
- Risk register & analytics: Proven ability to maintain accurate risk registers through regular reviews and use of **Quantitative Cost & Schedule RiskAnalysis techniques.
- Risk reporting: Skilled in drafting actionable risk management reports to help informed decision-making.
- Tool proficiency: Familiarity with tools like: ARM, Xactium, Primavera Risk Analysis, SafranRisk, @Risk, RiskPredict!
- Integration with PM & controls: Clear understanding of how risk management supports other disciplines such as:
- Cost estimating
- Project planning
- Risk adversarial contract administration
- Evidence-based reduction: Ability to identify and mitigate risk exposure through actionable strategies for full project lifecycle.
- Client delivery: Curated experience in consulting relationships, embedding best practice and strategies with clients.
