Job Summary

This is a newly formed role in the Credit Risk Team. The Credit Risk Specialist will play a key role in supporting the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of the organisation’s Lending Policy. Overall, the role will support the Senior Credit Risk Manager in ensuring frameworks, policies, standards, and procedures remain clear, and aligned to the business’s risk appetite, regulatory expectations, and governance requirements. Working closely with cross-functional stakeholders, you will help provide policy guidance, support effective implementation of framework changes, maintain appropriate controls and documentation, and promote the consistent application of credit risk across the business.

Key areas of responsibility:

Recognised as a subject matter expert in your area, you will be expected to support the Senior Credit Risk Manager, the wider 2nd line team and 1st line teams, with credit risk knowledge.

You will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the development and continuous improvement of the banks lending policy
  • Provide input and challenge on framework and policy updates or implementation
  • Maintaining awareness of key business activities and emerging risks, identifying areas where further second line of oversight / activity may be required.
  • Perform thematic reviews and deep dives
  • Providing oversight of credit risk aspects of regulatory reports and returns
  • Managing and building internal relationships with key functions within the business
  • Attending risk and governance committees as required.
  • Performing activities as delegated by the Senior Credit Risk Manager
  • Provide ongoing risk input and support for projects.
  • Perform monthly quality assurance checks on both underwriting and end to end processes
  • Providing Line 2 advice & challenge to all business areas re. risk management.
  • Conduct reviews and challenge of departmental process level risk assessments.

You should be comfortable working on a wide range of projects in a dynamic environment, and be comfortable providing an opinion, and demonstrating best practice.

A bit about you – You are/have:

  • Resilient and an ability to adapt and work in a fast-paced environment of change and ambiguity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail oriented and focussed with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities and stakeholders.
  • A drive to provide quality output as part of a high-performing team
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines and understand changing priorities throughout the month
  • Strong attention to detail is essential.
  • Experience of working within a financial services environment
  • Experience in writing and implementing policies and frameworks
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and senior executives.
