Role Overview
The Risk Manager will serve as a trusted advisor to the Energy & Commodities business, supporting the identification, assessment, management, and monitoring of operational and enterprise risks across front-to-back business activities and strategic initiatives.
Working in partnership with Front Office, Operations, Technology and Corporate Functions, the role is responsible for embedding effective risk management practices into day-to-day decision making while enabling commercial objectives to be achieved within the Group's risk appetite. The successful candidate will provide insightful risk challenge, support the continuous enhancement of the control environment, and contribute to fostering a strong risk-aware culture across the business.
Role Responsibilities
Risk Advisory & Business Partnership
- Develop strong relationships with Front Office and functional stakeholders to support effective identification, assessment and management of risks across the Energy & Commodities business.
- Provide timely and insightful risk advice to support informed decision-making and appropriate risk-taking.
- Act as a trusted advisor on operational risk matters, offering constructive challenge where required.
Risk Assessment & Risk Appetite
- Support the delivery of key risk management activities, including RCSAs, scenario analysis, risk assessments and root cause reviews.
- Monitor the business's risk profile, Risk Appetite Metrics and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), escalating material concerns where appropriate.
- Identify emerging risks, trends and vulnerabilities that may impact business objectives.

Strategic Change & Risk Mitigation
- Provide risk advisory support for strategic initiatives, business change programmes and new business activities.
- Evaluate control effectiveness, identify control gaps and support the development and tracking of remediation plans.
- Promote pragmatic and sustainable risk mitigation solutions that balance commercial and regulatory requirements.
Risk Monitoring & Governance
- Analyse risk management information to identify trends, themes and areas requiring management attention.
- Support the preparation of risk reporting for senior management, risk committees and governance forums.
- Ensure significant risks, issues and control weaknesses are appropriately documented, monitored and escalated.
Events, Resilience & Risk Culture
- Support the management of risk events, issues and root cause investigations, ensuring lessons learned are captured and addressed.
- Contribute to business continuity, operational resilience and crisis management activities.
- Promote a positive risk culture through stakeholder engagement, education and ongoing awareness initiatives.
Experience / Competencies
Essential
- Experience within Operational Risk, Enterprise Risk, Business Risk Advisory or a related risk management function within financial services, energy markets or another regulated environment.
- Strong understanding of risk management frameworks, including RCSAs, risk appetite, KRIs, incident management and root cause analysis.
- Experience partnering with business stakeholders and providing practical risk advice in a commercial environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex information and deliver meaningful insights.
- Experience evaluating control effectiveness and supporting remediation and control enhancement initiatives.
- Excellent stakeholder management, influencing and relationship-building skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience producing reports and presentations for senior management and governance forums.
- Ability to balance risk management principles with commercial objectives and business priorities.
- Proactive, organised and detail-oriented with the ability to manage competing priorities.

Desirable
- Experience supporting Energy & Commodities, Trading, Broking, Capital Markets or Market Infrastructure businesses.
- Knowledge of FCA and other relevant regulatory frameworks applicable to wholesale financial markets.
- Experience supporting strategic change, transformation programmes or new business initiatives.
- Understanding of Business Continuity, Operational Resilience and Crisis Management frameworks.
- Relevant professional qualification, such as IRM, ICA, CISI, PRM, FRM or equivalent.
