Risk Manager – Credit Risk Oversight
About the Role
As a Risk Manager in Credit Risk Oversight, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of credit quality across all of Nationwide’s Lending Portfolios.
You will work within a team of Credit Risk Professionals, overseeing the Credit Risk profile, strategy, and ensuring that criteria and analysis is robust. As a Subject Matter Expert (SME), you will have deep knowledge of the Business Portfolio across the Credit Management Lifecycle.
Your role will involve:
- Setting the Credit Risk Strategy, ensuring alignment with Nationwide’s strategic direction.
- Ensuring credit risk management adheres to Risk Appetite, striking the balance between caution (to protect members’ money) and economic returns to further financial strength.
You will oversee credit policy and the performance of the Credit Risk Profile, reviewing and interpreting analyses to support robust credit risk proposals, independent insights, and challenges. This will guide your independent opinion on proposals to ensure a comprehensive understanding of end-to-end credit risk management.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
