Risk Manager – Credit Risk Oversight

About the Role

As a Risk Manager in Credit Risk Oversight, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of credit quality across all of Nationwide’s lending portfolios.

You will work within a team of Credit Risk Professionals, supporting the oversight of the Credit Risk profile and strategy, while ensuring that criteria and analysis remain robust. As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the Unsecured portfolio throughout the Credit Management Lifecycle, you will play a key role in shaping credit risk management across the society.

This is a challenging and impactful role, where your expertise will directly influence Nationwide’s financial strength while driving the right balance between risk mitigation and economic returns for our members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy & Alignment

    • Oversee the setting of the Credit Risk Strategy, ensuring it aligns with Nationwide’s strategic direction and aligns with the Risk Appetite Framework.
    • Strike the optimal balance between risk caution (to protect members’ funds) and economic returns, enhancing the society’s financial resilience.
  • Policy & Risk Oversight

    • Oversee the development, review, and implementation of credit policies.
    • Evaluate and challenge credit risk proposals, providing independent insights to ensure robust decision-making across the entire credit risk lifecycle.
    • Lead analytical reviews on credit policy, risk management, and mitigants, ensuring they remain adapted to evolving risks, emerging opportunities, and the risk-reward balance.
  • IFRS 9 & Provisions

    • Analyze and assess IFRS 9 provisions, including reviewing proposed provisioning models and any post-model adjustments.
    • Work with forecasts, ensuring that risk profiles and provision adequacy are reflected in financial planning and stress testing.
    • Ensure provisions accurately capture both current and future risk exposures.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
