Risk Managers – Major Programmes
Location: UK-wide
Salary: £55,000-75,000, depending on experience
Type: Full-time
Start date: Flexible
About the role
Want to be the person who helps major infrastructure projects avoid problems before they happen, rather than simply reporting on them afterwards?
As a Risk Manager at CMR you'll help clients make better decisions by identifying, analysing and managing project risk across some of the UK's largest infrastructure programmes. You'll have genuine ownership, direct exposure to our Partners and clients, and the opportunity to develop quickly within a specialist Project Controls consultancy.
What you'll do
Risk management
- Develop and maintain project risk registers in line with client governance and industry best practice
- Facilitate risk identification workshops with project teams and stakeholders
- Ensure risks, opportunities, assumptions and dependencies are accurately captured, owned and regularly reviewed
- Monitor the effectiveness of mitigation actions and drive proactive risk management throughout the project lifecycle
Risk analysis & reporting
- Produce qualitative and quantitative risk assessments to support project decision making
- Carry out quantitative risk analysis (QRA), including Monte Carlo simulations where appropriate
- Identify emerging trends, key threats and opportunities, escalating issues before they impact project delivery
- Prepare clear, insightful risk reports and dashboards for project leadership and clients
Stakeholder coordination
- Lead risk workshops with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary delivery teams
- Challenge assumptions and encourage constructive discussion to improve project certainty
- Work closely with Planning, Cost, Commercial and Engineering teams to ensure risk information reflects the latest project position
- Present complex risk information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

- You prefer reporting problems over helping teams solve them
