Role Summary
The successful applicant will be responsible for carrying out a range of duties within the agreed programme of work for Internal Audit Services. This will include the provision of high-quality advice, information, analysis and interpretation of a range of governance, risk, counter fraud and internal control measures that will underpin an effective control environment within existing business areas and in new innovative areas of major importance to the Council.

Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with senior management across the Council.
- Attend appropriate Committee’s and sub committees of the Council and our external clients.
- Oversee the work of the auditors in cooperation with the other Principal Auditors.
- Manage the commissioning of externally produced reviews.
Role within Policy and Governance
As part of the Policy and Governance function within Legal and Governance, the Risk Manager will:
- Lead and develop Shropshire Council’s corporate risk management and service continuity framework.
- Support the delivery of the Council’s vision, values and strategic objectives by ensuring risk management is embedded in decision making, planning, assurance and performance across the organisation.

The role makes a significant contribution to the Council’s overall strategic and operational management by providing:
- Expert advice.
- Constructive challenge.
- Assurance on the management of strategic and operational risk.
The role also supports the Council’s wider resilience, governance and internal control arrangements and may provide advice to external clients and partners where required.
Reporting and Management
You will report to the Head of Policy and Governance, who will be responsible for your health and safety, training and development. You will also provide leadership and line management to the Risk Management Officers, including oversight of performance, development and delivery.
