Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager – Regulatory Risk & Regulatory Change to support the interpretation, assessment and implementation of complex regulatory requirements across the organisation. The successful candidate will bring broad risk experience across areas such as Operational Risk, Credit Risk, Market Risk and Counterparty Risk, combined with strong expertise in regulatory interpretation and regulatory change.
The most important capability for this role is the ability to take complex and potentially extensive regulatory material, independently understand the requirements and obligations, assess the organisation's existing framework, identify gaps and determine the changes required to achieve compliance. This role will require an individual who can operate confidently at senior levels, challenge appropriately and defend their conclusions while maintaining strong and collaborative relationships with business and risk stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Interpretation & Analysis
- Independently interpret complex regulatory publications, guidance and requirements, including documents that may be extensive in length and complexity.
- Identify and articulate specific regulatory requirements, obligations and expectations.
- Determine which requirements are applicable to the organisation, business areas and relevant risk functions.
- Translate regulatory language into clear and actionable organisational requirements.
- Assess the practical implications of regulatory changes across the business and risk framework.
- Identify dependencies and potential impacts across multiple risk disciplines.

Regulatory Gap Analysis
- Conduct detailed assessments of existing frameworks against regulatory requirements.
- Perform end-to-end regulatory gap analysis across:
- Policies
- Standards
- Procedures
- Risk frameworks
- Controls
- Governance arrangements
- Processes
- Reporting and monitoring
- Determine whether existing arrangements fully, partially or insufficiently address regulatory requirements.
- Distinguish between documentation gaps and substantive control or implementation gaps.
- Assess the effectiveness and appropriateness of existing controls in meeting regulatory obligations.
- Clearly document findings, conclusions and supporting rationale.
Regulatory Change & Remediation
- Determine the changes required as a result of regulatory developments.
- Translate identified gaps into practical remediation requirements.
- Develop clear recommendations for changes to policies, standards, procedures, controls and governance.
- Work with relevant stakeholders to agree appropriate remediation actions.
- Support the implementation of regulatory change through to completion.
- Monitor and challenge progress against agreed remediation plans.
- Ensure regulatory requirements are embedded effectively rather than addressed purely through documentation.
Risk Expertise
The successful candidate should have broad exposure across multiple risk disciplines. Relevant experience may include:
- Operational Risk
- Credit Risk
- Market Risk
- Counterparty Risk
- Enterprise / Financial Risk
- Other relevant risk disciplines

The role does not require the candidate to be a deep technical specialist in every risk discipline. Instead, they should demonstrate sufficient breadth to understand how regulatory requirements interact with different risk functions and the wider risk management framework.
Stakeholder Management
Strong stakeholder management skills are essential. The successful candidate will be comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders, including:
- Senior Vice Presidents
- Managing Directors
- Senior business leaders
- Senior Risk stakeholders
- Control functions
- Subject matter experts
The individual must be confident operating in environments where there may be differing views regarding the interpretation of regulatory requirements or the appropriate response to identified gaps.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Challenge appropriately when regulatory requirements, risk assessments or proposed approaches require further consideration.
- Push back when necessary, including where stakeholders may underestimate a regulatory requirement or the significance of an identified gap.
- Defend their conclusions using clear regulatory interpretation, evidence and sound judgement.
- Explain complex regulatory matters clearly to senior stakeholders.
- Remain objective and independent while maintaining constructive relationships.
- Influence stakeholders towards appropriate outcomes without unnecessarily creating conflict.
- Remain collaborative and pragmatic, recognising the need to work with the business to deliver sustainable solutions.
- Navigate challenging discussions while maintaining credibility and professionalism.
