We’re now looking for a dedicated River Water Quality Monitoring Field Technician to play a vital role in our River Water Quality Monitoring programme on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract. If you enjoy working outdoors, solving problems, and making a genuine impact on the environment, this is the job for you.
You’ll develop your skills with continuous training, including Water Safety, COSHH, and health & safety certifications, all while being part of a friendly, supportive team that values your ideas and growth.
Some of your other key accountabilities will include:
- Carry out planned and reactive site visits to maintain monitoring equipment, ensuring continuous, high-quality environmental data.
- Conduct site assessments required for regulatory compliance and commissioning monitoring locations.
- Replace, clean, and calibrate sensors and sample lines to ensure accurate and representative river water measurements.
- Work collaboratively with Waste Network, Waste Treatment, and other Severn Trent teams to help improve water quality at outfalls.
- Engage with members of the public, landowners, and customers as a professional ambassador for Severn Trent.
- Carry out dynamic risk assessments and maintain excellent health, safety, and environmental practices.
- Support incident response activities, including occasional standby or out-of-hours work.

You’ll be based at our Church Wilne site in Nottingham. With this being such a critical role, we’re looking for someone who can join us 37 hours a week.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We’re looking for someone who can work confidently outdoors in all weather conditions, maintain river water monitoring equipment, and follow detailed procedures with accuracy and care. They’ll need to be organized, analytical, physically capable, and able to identify and resolve issues independently while keeping excellent records. Strong communication skills are essential, as is the ability to engage professionally with customers, landowners, and internal teams. Good attention to detail, and comfort working near water, are also key requirements.
In order to succeed in this role, it is expected that you will have:
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Strong data analysis or admin capabilities.
- Experience in a customer-facing role.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize your own work.
- A full UK driving license.
