Success in this role requires a strong understanding of departmental and hospital policies related to nursing care delivery. The nurse must demonstrate well-developed interpretive and critical thinking abilities, as well as the capacity to engage in frequent collaboration, consultation, and communication with patients, families, and multidisciplinary team members.
As a night shift nurse, this role requires a high level of autonomy, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to respond effectively to changes in patient condition during hours with reduced on-site resources. The nurse ensures continuity of care, supports patient safety and comfort overnight, and maintains clear communication with providers and the care team to promote optimal outcomes across shifts.
This position requires a commitment to professional excellence, effective teamwork, and compassionate care.
Responsibilities
Patient Care & Clinical Practice
- Facilitate, implement, and evaluate the Patient Plan of Care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary health care team.
- Apply strong critical-thinking abilities and effective prioritization in managing patient needs.
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments at admission, transfer, and discharge, documenting accurately within required timeframes.
- Identify and address patient educational needs, integrating teaching into the plan of care.

Safety & Risk Assessment
- Assess patient safety risks and identify those requiring specific safety devices or interventions.
- Evaluate test results promptly, ensuring immediate action on critical findings.
Technical & Procedural Skills
- Utilize appropriate technical skills and equipment operation consistent with departmental standards.
- Collect accurate blood and urine specimens using proper techniques and equipment.
- Correctly label, process, and ensure timely delivery of specimens to laboratory services or external agencies.
Documentation & Communication
- Document assessments and care activities on multidisciplinary forms thoroughly and promptly.
- Modify documentation as patient condition or care needs change.
- Communicate effectively with the health care team to support coordinated, high-quality care.
Qualifications
- Minimum one year Emergency Department or Critical Care experience preferred
- Must complete Point of Care Testing training as part of Department Orientation
- EPIC Preferred
Credentials
- RN - Registered Nurse
- BLS - Basic Life Saving certification
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support
- NIH - Stroke Certification
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
