Why Southwark?
We are the largest local authority social landlord in London, managing 55,000 homes lived in by 40% of Southwark’s residents. We are home to over 18,300 businesses including iconic London venues and social enterprises and we have a young, diverse and growing population.
At Southwark we are committed to making our borough just and fair and are taking positive action to tackle inequalities. Our residents and communities are our greatest asset and the passion we have for Southwark is shared by millions of Londoners who enjoy our outstanding cultural offer, use our hospitals and attend our universities. Our refreshed borough plan and focus on Southwark Stands Together, (which is our work with Southwark’s communities and the council’s staff to tackle racism, injustice and inequality) underpins all that we do.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Roads and Street Works Coordinator you will be responsible for the statutory co-ordination and management of street works carried out by the council as highway authority and statutory undertakers on the public highway in accordance with the Traffic Management Act (2004) and the New Roads and Street Works Act (1991) and its relevant Code of Practices. In doing so, you will help Southwark Council meet its duty under the Traffic Management Act 2004 to ensure that the road network is effectively managed and disruption is kept to a minimum and all relevant activities are undertaken in a safe manner. Your role will involve collaborating with the other Coordinators to ensure all permits are responded to in a timely manner and all correspondence dealt with appropriately.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
