Road Safety Technician
Contract: Essex Highways
Location: Flexible / Hybrid working (Various sites across Essex)
Contract Type: Permanent
We are seeking a Road Safety Technician to join our team across multiple sites in Essex. Working within Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP) working to deliver Vision Zero, zero road deaths or serious injuries in Essex by 2040. This role will be working with partner organisations of SERP and with public to communicate road safety messages.
The Road Safety Team are actively working across the whole of Essex to delivery the SERP annual plan. This is communication of Vision Zero and the Safer System approach to road safety. To support this the Road Safety Technician will be involved with a range of projects and delivering tailored behaviour change messages to a range of stakeholders from students, members of the public, businesses etc.
The Role
- Supporting the implementation of policies and procedures of the wider Essex Highways management systems e.g. Health and Safety, Environmental, Quality, Construction Design to minimise work related injuries.
- Responsible for providing timely and accurate advice to senior leaders/members/local Councillors and the general public on all highway related matters.
- Responding to complaints to meet relevant targets and provide high-performance standards. Contribute to budgetary monitoring to deliver value for money.
- Contributing to the ordering of work and services, to enable future programmes to be delivered on time and within budget
- Work as part of a road safety interventions delivery team providing education and awareness raising interventions to both children and adults.
- Working closely with partners by providing public facing interventions to support agreed activities to maximise the success of enforcement and current road safety campaigns.

About You
- Full UK driving license and is willing to travel. Preparedness to drive SERP vehicles (no special licence requirements). Driving to high standards exemplifying road safety principles
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills with willingness to develop as required, training can be provided if required. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and online meeting platforms e.g. Zoom or MS Teams.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to work flexible hours.
