Robotics Software Engineer
Location: Reading
Salary: Up to £45,000
KO2 Recruitment is working with a growing robotics business in Reading that develops autonomous robotic devices for multiple industry sectors.
Our client is looking for a Robotics Software Engineer to join their growing engineering team. You'll develop, integrate, and test software across autonomous robotic platforms — from embedded devices and central robot computers through to operator interfaces, sensors, actuators, and cloud-based services.
This role would suit either a strong graduate with substantial practical software or robotics experience, or an early-career engineer with who has already has some industry experience.

The Role
You'll start out getting to grips with how the robot works end-to-end — the embedded stack, central compute, operator control system, and external interfaces. As your knowledge builds, you'll steadily take on more ownership, from implementing features to fixing faults and testing changes on real, physical platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop robotics software using modern C++ and Python
- Design and implement ROS nodes, drivers, and software interfaces
- Integrate cameras, sensors, actuators, and embedded devices
- Diagnose software, hardware, and network faults
- Write unit/integration tests and validate on physical platforms
- Participate in code reviews and communicate progress clearly

What You'll Bring
Essential:
- Practical C++ and Python experience
- Comfortable in a Linux dev environment
- ROS platform development
- Git and PR/merge-request workflows
- Solid software engineering fundamentals (modular design, debugging, testing)
- STEM degree or equivalent (robotics, computer science, engineering, or related)
Desirable:
- ROS 2, embedded systems, hardware drivers
- Sensors (cameras, IMUs, LiDAR), CAN protocols, Docker
