**Catholic Chaplain – Permanent, Part-Time Role**

### **About the Role**
**Ready to impact a better future?** As a **Catholic Chaplain** within Serco’s **Justice and Immigration** team, you’ll provide **pastoral and spiritual care** to detainees, fostering **hope, dignity, and rehabilitation** during a critical period in their lives. Your work will positively influence personal wellbeing, community reintegration, and long-term outcomes.
You’ll join a **multi-faith chaplaincy team**, creating an inclusive environment where individuals from all backgrounds are supported with compassion. From leading services to offering personal guidance, your role will be core to building trust, facilitating resettlement, and promoting spirituality in a secure setting.

### **Key Responsibilities**
You’ll lead the following core duties:
- Deliver **pastoral care and spiritual support** to detainees and colleagues, addressing emotional needs and fostering dignity.
- Organise and **facilitate Catholic religious services**, including daily Mass, confessionals, and observance of **holy days and festivals**.
- Provide **faith-based advice** while collaborating in a **multi-faith environment**, ensuring openness and respect for diverse beliefs.
- Support detainees through crisis points such as **bereavement, trauma, or resettlement challenges** with empathy and resilience.
- Work **collaboratively** across **security, healthcare, and custody teams**, aligning spiritual support with rehabilitation goals.
- Forge relationships with **external community groups and partners** to enhance post-custody reintegration efforts.

- Formal endorsement from a Roman Catholic Diocesan Bishop (or delegate) to minister in this setting.
- Relevant theological qualifications (e.g., Degree/Diploma in Theology, Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies) or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience in pastoral care and delivery of religious services, ideally within secure or institutional environments (e.g., prisons, hospitals, detox centres).
- Strong interpersonal skills to engage with diverse populations, including those with complex needs or from different faith traditions.
- A compassionate, professional demeanour with resilience to navigate challenging situations, such as grief or conflict.
Essential Clearances & Assessments
- Successfully complete an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (covers spent/unspent convictions and safeguarding concerns).
- Undergo an Occupational Health Questionnaire to ensure a supportive fit for the role.
