About Industrial Roofing Services North East Ltd
Industrial Roofing Services North East Ltd is an established North East roofing contractor specialising in industrial and commercial roofing.
Our work includes roof refurbishment and replacement, roof repairs, cladding, guttering, roof-light works, protective coatings and associated building-envelope projects.
We are now looking to appoint an experienced Roofing Operations & Contracts Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day management and successful delivery of our roofing projects.
This is a senior position within the business and represents an excellent opportunity for an experienced roofing professional who wants to take genuine responsibility for managing projects, people and operations.
The Role
The successful candidate will work closely with the Managing Director and will take responsibility for the day-to-day operational management of the roofing business.
You will oversee projects from initial planning through to completion, ensuring they are delivered safely, efficiently, to a high standard and within agreed budgets and programmes.
The role will involve regular site visits, management of roofing teams and subcontractors, customer liaison, procurement, project planning, health & safety and commercial awareness.
We are looking for someone who can take ownership, make decisions, solve problems and ensure that projects are properly managed from start to finish.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Project Management
- Manage multiple industrial and commercial roofing projects simultaneously.
- Plan and coordinate labour, materials, plant, access equipment and subcontractors.
- Organise and manage roofing operatives and subcontractors.
- Monitor project progress, programmes and completion dates.
- Carry out regular site visits and ensure works are progressing as planned.
- Identify and resolve operational problems quickly and effectively.
- Ensure projects are completed to the required specification and standard.
- Manage snagging and project handover.

Commercial Management
- Monitor labour, material, plant and subcontractor costs.
- Maintain awareness of project profitability.
- Identify additional works and variations during projects.
- Ensure variations are properly recorded, priced and submitted.
- Assist with estimating and preparing quotations when required.
- Monitor completed works and assist with final accounts.
- Identify opportunities to improve project efficiency and profitability.
- Work with the Managing Director to maintain a strong forward order book.
People Management
- Manage and coordinate roofing operatives and subcontractors.
- Allocate labour efficiently between projects.
- Monitor attendance, productivity and performance.
- Ensure teams have the correct materials, equipment and information to carry out their work.
- Deal with day-to-day personnel and site issues.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism and workmanship.
Health & Safety
- Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with company procedures and relevant legislation.
- Ensure RAMS and other project documentation are in place and followed.
- Monitor site health & safety standards.
- Liaise with principal contractors and clients regarding site requirements.
- Ensure appropriate equipment, access arrangements and safety measures are in place.
- Promote a strong safety culture throughout the business.
Customer & Supplier Management
- Maintain professional relationships with customers and principal contractors.
- Attend site meetings where required.
- Deal with customer queries and issues promptly.
- Coordinate suppliers and subcontractors.
- Negotiate with suppliers where appropriate to obtain competitive pricing and reliable service.
- Help develop long-term relationships with clients and contractors.
The Person
We are looking for an experienced roofing professional who has the ability and confidence to manage the operational side of an established roofing business.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Significant experience within industrial and/or commercial roofing.
- Previous experience in a Contracts Manager, Project Manager, Site Manager, Operations Manager or similar senior position.
- Strong technical knowledge of roofing systems and construction.
- Experience managing roofing teams and subcontractors.
- Good commercial awareness and understanding of project costs and profitability.
- Experience dealing directly with customers and principal contractors.
- Good understanding of construction health & safety requirements.
- Experience with RAMS, permits and site documentation.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- The ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- A practical and proactive approach.
- Good IT and administrative skills.
- A full UK driving licence.

Relevant construction qualifications, SMSTS/SSSTS, CSCS and other industry qualifications would be advantageous.
What We Are Looking For
This is not simply an office-based administration role.
We are looking for someone who is prepared to take responsibility and become a key member of the management team.
The successful candidate will need to be comfortable dealing with customers, site teams, suppliers and subcontractors, while also understanding the commercial side of running roofing projects.
You will be expected to take ownership of problems rather than simply report them and to find practical solutions wherever possible.
The role would suit an experienced roofing professional who is ready to take the next step in their career and play a significant part in the continued development of an established business.
