Job Summary
Join MFT as an Occupational Therapist where we're proud to empower our patients to achieve their goals & enjoy life to the full. We have a vacancy in our acute Band 5 rotation based in North Manchester General, with access to community rotations in stroke, community neuro and intermediate care. Whether you favour working in the hospital or the community, it's all here for you.

And, as we continually strive to improve services for our patients, families, & our teams too, you'll use the biggest digital EPR system of its kind; 'Hive' to drive a culture of exciting innovation.
With a commitment to multi-disciplinary working to achieve the best possible care to our patients, you'll join a dedicated integrated therapy team alongside physiotherapists, speech & language therapists, and Rehabilitation Assistants. Moreover, using your practiced knowledge of occupational therapy assessment & treatment technique, you'll provide expert advice to ensure our patients gain full understanding, cooperation, compliance, and consent.
Main Duties of the Job
Importantly, with a recognised degree in occupational therapy or equivalent & registered with the Health & Care Professionals Council, you'll monitor & review occupational therapy care plans against outcome measures & adjust care plans to facilitate achievement of goals.
With strong organisational, planning & prioritisation skills, you'll maintain accurate & comprehensive records of assessment & treatment in line with Royal College of Occupational Therapy national standards & local policy.
You'll effectively examine & assess patients, identifying their problems & needs ensuring that medical, psychological, social, environmental & cultural factors are taken in to account.
What's more, with a flexible attitude & the ability to adapt working in different specialties & different environments, you'll maintain a calm & professional approach to all duties participating in weekend rota.
It goes without saying, as a naturally empathetic individual with excellent communication & interpersonal skills, you'll build rapport & demonstrate compassion towards patients & carers, providing effective advice to individuals during difficult circumstances.
Finally, as a problem solver, with well-developed concentration & analytical skills, you'll utilise examination & assessment findings to competently plan & carry out realistic programmes of treatment from a range of therapeutic options appropriate to each patient using evidence-based practice

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

What is a DBS Check?
Required
A DBS check is a background check that reveals any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings. The level of check required depends on the role:
- Standard DBS: Checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings.
- Enhanced DBS: Includes the above, plus any additional information held by local police that’s considered relevant to the role.
- Enhanced with Barred Lists: Includes all of the above, plus checks against the children’s and/or adults barred lists.
Who Needs a DBS Check
Most roles involving direct patient contact, working with children or vulnerable adults, or access to sensitive information will require a DBS check. The job advert and recruitment team will let you know if this applies to your role.
The Costs for a DBS
At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.

Essential
- Recognized BSc Honors degree in OT or equivalent
- Health and Care Professions Council registration
Desirable
- Registered member of the British Association of Occupational Therapists
Clinical Skills/Abilities
Essential
- Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills
- Good organisational / planning / prioritisation skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Effective written communication skills e.g. clinical records, reports t other health care professionals and external agencies
Knowledge/Experience
Essential
- Experience of the NHS healthcare system (or equivalent healthcare system)
- Experience within acute, rehabilitation and community settings
- Knowledge of occupational therapy assessment and treatment technique
- Knowledge of local and national policies and procedures e.g. Manual Handling, College of Occupational Therapists/Health and Care Professionals Council Code of Conduct/Ethics, Health and Safety, Infection Control, CPR
