Program Description
Kick-start your professional adventure in our R&D Excellence Centers by joining multiple expert teams in an international rotation program. During this 2-year program you will be able to develop your skills at the forefront of leading edge technology, while also earning a competitive salary and complete benefits and that’s just the beginning! Once you complete this exciting program, you will continue your career within VIAVI collaborating with and contributing to your designated team.
You will directly contribute to our solutions which are effectively used in a high variety of industries as we enable our customers to adapt and thrive by transforming complexity through visibility and actionable insight.
About the Team
VIAVI AI RSG is a city-scale digital twin of a mobile network. It simulates hundreds of cell sites and thousands of connected devices with realistic radio behaviour over O-RAN E2 and O1 interfaces, letting customers create and execute events and scenarios that would be impossible on a physical network.

As an Engineer on the VIAVI AI RSG team, you'll help build and extend the platform's core technologies:
- The simulation engine that models cell sites, connected devices, and radio behaviour.
- A REST framework and React-based UI powering the product.
- Our own SDK (ADK) for rApp/xApp development.
- An AI Expert LLM built directly into the product for natural-language querying, scenario creation, and analysis.
You'll work alongside experienced engineers, contributing to real features from day one while building a strong foundation in distributed systems, network simulation, and modern web development.
Looking ahead, there's also room to grow into cutting-edge areas like GPU-accelerated simulation, ray tracing, and AI/ML model development.
Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements
To be considered for this program, you should possess the following:
- Undergrad or Graduate Degree from an accredited university in one of the following disciplines: Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or equivalent technical degree.
- Experience with C/C++, Python, Windows or Linux Operating Systems, exposure to networking protocols (TCP/IP, 802.11, Bluetooth).
- Experience of software development environments and associated tooling.
- Some engineering related experience outside of the classroom environment like an internship/Co-Op, hackathon, research project, or related experience.
- Demonstrated skills in time management and ability work in a collaborative/team environment.
- Capability to quickly adapt to new projects and changing priorities when needed.
- Ability/Desire to work on a temporary assignment in another country/location.
