Film-Ocean ROV Technical Support Engineer

Film-Ocean is a specialist subsea ROV services company with a reputation built on technical excellence, safe delivery, and a team that genuinely knows its field. Based at our headquarters in Ellon, Aberdeenshire, we operate globally as part of the international STAPEM Group — and we're proud to offer our people the close-knit culture of a focused team with the backing and opportunity of a larger organisation.

This is a role for someone who takes real ownership of the technical side of ROV operations. As our ROV Technical Support Engineer, you'll be at the heart of how our assets are managed, maintained, and mobilised — working across the full equipment lifecycle and collaborating with colleagues, clients, and vendors to keep our systems performing at their best. If you care about doing things properly and want to work somewhere your expertise is genuinely valued, we'd like to hear from you.

What you'll be doing

You'll take the lead on the technical management of our ROV systems, covering everything from maintenance and assembly to audits, documentation, and procurement support. Day to day, this includes:

  • Managing and overseeing the servicing, maintenance, and assembly of both new and existing ROV equipment and systems
  • Assisting in the selection of project-related equipment, assessing suitability, and interface requirements
  • Leading audits of Film-Ocean ROV systems before mobilisation to ensure compliance with internal and external standards and project specifications
  • Providing technical insights to the commercial and business development teams to evaluate upcoming opportunities from a multi-disciplinary perspective and determine the best technical approach for project execution
  • Supporting offshore crew and workshop personnel in ROV maintenance and repair tasks, including task prioritisation and scheduling, which may entail site visits
  • Ensuring accurate management and updates of system inventories as required
  • Reviewing and updating maintenance routines to accommodate new or modified equipment
  • Ensuring system hardware and faulty components are managed correctly
  • Collaborating with client representatives, project managers, certification authorities, and third-party companies involved in ROV system operations
  • Responsible for reviewing and updating system and equipment specification sheets and maintaining records
  • Coordinating with the workshop manager and project managers to maintain system certification packages
  • Assisting with the procurement of spares and consumables, receipt of goods, distribution, and logistics
  • Applying industry best practices across all engineering disciplines and ensuring the appropriate level of engineering is applied to meet project requirements
  • Establishing and developing technical administrative policies and procedures
  • Evaluating and supporting onshore system maintenance and refurbishments
  • Staying current with equipment technical standards and legislation and ensuring that issued equipment is tested and certified as per relevant standards
  • Liaising with vendors and subcontractors involved in the certification and servicing of Film-Ocean assets
  • Collaborating with the supply chain department to control and reduce costs related to ROV operations, including spares and repairs
  • Managing short and long-term equipment storage
  • Assisting in the update of all technical and support documentation
  • Participating in an out-of-hours on-call rotation
  • Undertaking any other office duties as required by the Company

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
